Altmann Tera Player - Page 91

Just when I thought I knew good music, you throw this stuff at me. My god how amazing this sounds. Very jealous of what else you may be holding in your collection.

I contacted several TP owners in private a while ago. One of them (who shall remain anonymous) seemed quite motivated to have the Tera Player measured, to satisfy me and the other sceptics. I asked if he would publish the measurements even if they turned out to be bad. He assured me that he would, as he believed it wouldn't mean anything to the TP owners, who know "how good it really sounds".

Several weeks passed without any news, so I inquired about it. The TP owner dismissed my inquiry without any explanation.

Disappointing. I was hoping that since the thread has for the most part been civil that somebody would come through with some measurements. I can't help but wonder, did they get them done  and discover they were scientifically bad, even if the sound was pleasing to them? Or did they just decide they didn't need to bother?

I'm sure they measure pretty bad Achmed ;). At the end of the day as long as it sounds good to my ears that is all that really matters. Hopefully I'll get to demo a unit in the near future :).

I was just thinking... if there's one thing that defines "audiophile," this player has to be it!

- espouses a lot of audio engineering theory

- loved by those who have it, looked at skeptically by those who don't

- sacrifices practicality for the benefit of superior sound quality

- placebo?

-eccentric

- expensive!

probably missing a couple bullet points, but this thing encapsulates "audiophile" in a nut shell!

Hey Jim, I think you've got your DAPs crossed- I'm talking about the Tera Player, which I don't own, not the RWAK100 that you sold me, though what I said applies to that too!wink_face.gif

You have a Tera Player now? Interesting. Anyways, i guess what you're saying is true but I think some sacrifices are more welcomed than others. I am a huge advocate for the lack of display. Not that I wouldnt use a device with a display if their was one available, but I find this device is actually just fine without it. And I disagree, I don't think it's a placebo. If you look over some of my impressions the first days i had the Tera Player I was much less than impressed. It took a few days for my ears to adjust to the extreme low jitter/black background it has and fully appreciate the music it outputs

The low jitter has my interest. Not so much the black background as from what I'm hearing the RWA AK100 is even blacker. I mean it's nice on certain songs but not as impressive as it is made out be in general. The blackness I heard on the RWA AK100 I would equate to the void ;) lol.

I'm not saying that the TP is placebo- that's why I put the question mark next to it.  I'm actually optimistic about its prowess- I'm just sayin if I had to give a non-audiophile a 60 second crash course on head-fi, I'd hand him a tera player!  biggrin.gif

Do you own one Chris? What do you think of it if you do? :)

Nope.  To me and with all due respect, this thing is just a much better sounding ipod shuffle, and real life gets in the way of me getting this because I've got better things to spend a thousand dollars on.  What makes my decision to not get this easier is that I've got about a terabyte of music and I can't be bothered to convert all of my files to wav.  I don't want a music player that I have to accommodate.

Edit: wow. sorry that came across as really negative.  If you've got one, I'm jealous and I hope its the bee's knees!beerchug.gif

I don't have one yet. But may demo it and see if it is indeed worth its price :).

I've read you just bought the RWA AK100 recently and is now sold?  What happened?
