Using headphones / IEMs with a non flat impedance curve, like the UE Triple Fi 10, will show high output impedance issues in the Frequency Response graph. The next step is to measure the output impedance directly.

Does it matter which headphones I use?  Ideally I'd use the recommended Porta Pros but I don't have a pair.

See that's the problem, I've actually seen two graphs floating around for Colorfly C3 and they're both different. There's the one you found and this one. http://www.soomal.com/doc/20100002631.htm (scroll down)

If I had to pick I hear the second graph flat not the first you linked. I don't hear any bass-roll off with C3. That graph you linked first is closer to CK4+ roll off which is terrible and certainly audible to me..

Looks like the C3 has some rolloff issues...at least with sensitive IEM's (which are handled very well by the "mainstream" Clip+)

No, read the link, there's two graphs for C3. I;ve found two different charts.

What could HiFlight have done wrong?  I know I made a new 16 bit wav with a sine wave in it and put it on the Tera and it just sat there with the "hd light" on constantly.  I have no idea why.

That is exactly what my Tera did with a loaded .wav sinewave. I didn't make a mistake, I recorded the file just as I record ripped music. I tried both individual files and then a folder with multiple files. Blue light stayed on constantly, just like with an empty SD card. I will try creating a sinewave from my signal generator and feeding it to my digital recorder with it set to record in .wav. Maybe that will then play. We'll see.....

I did read it, and that's why I edited in "at least with sensitive IEM's" because the Markus Kraus link specifies testing with Triple Fi 10,  and the link you posted doesn't seem to say what they tested with.

That's the only thing I can think of at such time as well.

Well I've generated the files from RMAA and can confirm that they play just fine on the TP.  Seems both me and HiFlight are incapable of making proper .wav files blink.gif

The files aren't that long in play time so I think I'll try with ED8, TF10 and AH-D5000 - I can't stand my Grados out of the TP (too bright) and the K340 barely move biggrin.gif

I'm off to find some lunch but will resume shortly...

It looks like the soomal.com measurements weren't loaded. Both loaded and unloaded measurements are interesting.

I agree. I also linked the soomal test the other day. that one is likely not under load. Looking at the markuskraus graph, I'd suspect the output impedance is lower than I expected at below 2 ohms but with too small an output coupling cap. Could be something else in circuit limiting the bass but if it's a coupling cap and you want it corrected, something this easy to open would be simple to mod. Personally I don't think it's a big issue being a couple db down at 30 hz with a 32 ohm load but good to know. Those graphs are rather expanded for clarity and will make the roll off look more severe. There is more to sound than measurements. Look at dx100 fw changes that all measure the same but 2 db down is still always 2db down. This is the c3 I'm referring to. Perhaps this should be in the other thread until the TP gets measured.

I have to call it a failure for today - I can't get anything like the alleged unloaded C3 results, or those with the C3 and TF10. Will try again in the morning, hangover permitting, but not sure what I'm doing wrong.  It's so easy... frown.gif

The sine wave must be a stereo wav, Tera does play stereo only.

Eager to see what you find out,

Charles  :)

Ahh! Thanks Charles! I should have tried that! As always, there seems to be a simple solution to a supposedly complex problem.

Bad_Robot's (Markus Kraus') post on the German HiFi Forum contains both loaded and unloaded measurements for the C3 (scroll down to the middle of the page. Warning: Google Translate).
