Leckerton UHA-4 or Minibox ES for ER4S

so i cant decide as it seems both these amps are the ultimate for the Etys based on opinions here

i guess what it comes down to is which one will give me more scale, power, soundstage depth and low low bass for realistic orchestral recordings [Telarc anyone?]

i find that when i listen to most everything else that's badly recorded [especially indie rock, ugh] i tend to just plug the ER4s directly to my ipod classic and not really care about the sound.  but when i want to revel in the glories of amazing classical recordings i need MORE

also it doesnt help that the Leckerton is unavailable until further notice and im really close to pulling the trigger on the Minibox.

If  you do not need a DAC the Minibox ES sounds superb and it offers a lot of power with triple buffers per channel. You could also roll the main op-amp.

I'd hunt down the Minibox E+   I had one for my my ER4S.   The bass boost was EXACTLY what I felt they needed....

The UHA-4 is a very versatile piece of equipment that seems very well designed.  Nick at Leckerton really seems to know his stuff, judging from what he makes available on his site, and through email correspondence with him.  It looks like he still has B-stock units of the UHA-4 in stock, you can see them if you click on the main product listing on his site.  I purchased one of the B-stocks myself, it had one very minor physical flaw, and was essentially like new.  In my opinion, it's a steal at that price.

UHA-4 is probably my favorite audio equipment I have ever owned. Well, maybe along with CK10...

Not counting actual headphones, this.

Really can't go wrong with either one.   Head-direct has a 30 day return policy and find them easy to deal with (especially if you're talking to Ms. T).  I'm surprise the minibox es doesn't have a newer model.

Build quality, the UHA-4 wins out and has a longer warranty from a very stand up guy (Nick).  For the same price of $199, I would go with the UHA-4.  If you don't mind extra bulkiness and higher price, the UHA-6/S sounds a little better including the DAC if you like that feature.

Yes, sadly, everything it out of stock from Leckerton.  Nick did mention new products coming in the next months.  If I still had my UHA-4, I'd send it to you for review as we're both in the same state.

uha-4 was my go to amp for the er-4s.

with the c421 out though, i'd try that instead. i didn't have the c421 as an option 8 months ago.

For IEMs? Way too much power/gain, I'd think. The channel imbalance was pretty noticeable at low volume.

the c421 has too much power/gain? that's okay...  but the noticeable channel imbalance at low volumes? i find that hard to believe. where'd you hear that?

and we're not talking about just any iem here, we're talking about the er-4s, which is notoriously hard to drive for an iem because of its impedance of 100 ohms.

you absolutely NEED an amp for the er-4s.

Probably from the one I owned then sold.

I'm not doubting the need for an amp, but I think there're better choices, even if he doesn't go the UHA-4 route.
