Ugrade from AKG K701 to Grado PS 500 or Beyerdynamic T1 ?

Hello,

Currently I have Fubar 4(using only as a DAC)->Vincent KHV-1(AMP)->AKG 701 .

I would like to upgrade to something better and more bass oriented. I will keep my AKG 701 and I want something that has different sound signature. I listen mainly to Indie and alternative. My favorites are Radiohead, PJ Harvey, The Drums, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, The XX, The Kills , THE ARCADE FIRE.

I’m thinking about Grado PS 500 or Beyerdynamic T1.

Any suggestions?

I was reading Grado 500 review in Hi-Fi Choice  February 2012 the other day and they loved them. 5 stars...

"Superb, in a word. The PS500 has excellent clarity across the midband and a simply glorious bass, while treble is very sweet."

Are HD 700 good for Indie and alternative music? I read that for Indie and alternative music Grado headphones are the best. Are they?

The T1 are not so different compare to my K-702, here is more info: http://www.head-fi.org/t/595522/akg-k702-vs-beyerdynamic-t1-in-the-studio. If you need more bass, I think will be a good improvement to go with the Q701.

IMO the T1s are a pretty natural upgrade path from the K701s. They are simply better in every area and correcting the AKG's major weakness - bass.

The T1 are not natural and not really better, just a boost on the bass and annoying spike in the treble area. I don't see the point to go for the T1 if you can get five Q701 for the same price of the T1.

Just get one....and I'm sure you can find a good use for the money that you've just saved.

Well, I can definitely recommend Hifiman HE-500. Much cheaper than T1, sounds incredible and should also be much easier to drive properly than the 600 Ohm Beyers. the bass on HE-500 is much better than on any dynamic headphone I ever heard, period. Supremely textured, blazing fast and super precise. If you are looking for masterful bass performance, but aren't a basshead and want to hear your mids and highs just as well, then HE-500 is perfect for that IMO.

Well, I was suspecting that T1 will be better version of AKG 701. Better with more bass, but the price seemed to high for that little difference. I am also looking for headphones that don't need to be listened to on high volumes like AKG 701 needs to. On low volumes AKG 701 are sounding very bad. There for I'm looking on Grado cans. From what I read, they are very different from AKG, very "musical" and fun. And also can be listened to on low volumes without loss of quality. Now which Grado? Grado PS 500 has good reviews, bur RS1i also has good reputation for excellent sound for Indie and alternative music...

Just go for the T1. It's sound more natural than the sometimes artificial K701

Not really, Hifiman planar magnetics are very inefficient, so it will only need slightly less voltage, but much more current compared to the T1. But the T1 does seem to be overpriced.

The T1 isn't just more bass though - the angled driver also gives a much more natural and 3D sounding soundstage than the K701, whereas the K701 just sounds wide but lacks depth.  The K701 has angled pads (thicker at the back and thinner at the front) to try to achieve a similar result but it's nowhere close to what the T1 does.  The T1 actually takes the sound out of the head, whereas the K701 still has the sound shooting directing into the ear drums thus creating that "in the head" sound.  The T1 is also a LOT more comfortable.
