Ath-M50 headphone jack doesn't fit my iPhone case. Suggetiona?

I went in to my local music store to try out the ATH-M50. It was fabulous. The one problem is, the 1/8" jack is HUGE! I have an iPhone 4S with a Speck PixelSkin HD case, and the hole for the headphones is very small. It works with the Apple earbuds and generally the more 'portable' products, but the M50 and a bunch of other headphones I tried out didn't fit so well which is a problem. The sale guys were basically like, just get different headphones. Is there a solution? I thought maybe I could get a smaller 1/8-1/8 jack to attach to the M50 but that would for through my case, but that seems silly. Suggestions?

Go to radio shack and get a really short extension that does fit through the case or a longer one if you want.

Will that negatively impact the sound quality?

Will the extension from Radioshack affect the sound quality.  I found that the connector is too big for my "barely there" iphone cover so I mainly use my Ipod Touch for my M50s.

After many hours of analysis, my fellow rocket scientists and I have determined that a new case is required.

I believe the Wal-Mart next to Taco Bell has one and is currently on sale for $14.

In general I find that most iPhone cases have a tiny slot for headphones. That's because (a) the iPhone is something to begin with, so the slot can't really be bigger than the headphones, and (b) most earbuds have a very small headphone jack so they don't need a big slot in the case.

In either case, I really like my case. I'll probably just get an adaptor.

The extender cable that comes with the CAL works great.  I'm sure that you can find an affordable stand alone extender that won't cost too much.

I have the same iPhone case and ran into that problem when I tried out the M50s, too. Adapter seems like a hassle to me, I would just look for another case that will accommodate the plug. I didn't end up keeping the M50s, so I never went to the trouble, but I'm sure you can find one that works. Just take your headphones down to the Apple Store or Best Buy and try a few.

That all-metal connector is great, though. The build quality and feel is first-rate. Better than any other headphone I've tried.

**Actually, here's a better idea: get an external amp. Problem solved! biggrin.gif

Has anyone ever tried making the hole for headphone bigger? I don't want to use an extender as they add unnecessary hassle and tends to break easily.

No ne3ed for thread necromancy, you could have asked in the M50 appreciation thread or something.

Making the headphone hole in an add-on casing is a good idea to me.  I did that with the armor on my Samsung Galaxy Epic 4G.

Or you can reterminate the headphone cable with an extended plug, like this one.
