Official NYC Meet Sat June 2nd 2012 - Page 12

You forgot my friend Booze. He will be accompanying me to the meet as well.

Add to the gear list:  SB^2 ... "Spritzer Built Stax Box".

This consists of Spritzer's custom 2 x Lundahl 1627 transformers driving a Spritzer-mod Stax 007a O2 Mk2, all built by the Iceland-Man himself.  Powered by a PS Audio 100 wpc amp, a choice blessed by Spritzer.  The transfo box arrived today from Victor in Singapore, I think I will leave it packed for the month.

Source unknown at this time, probably FB2K loaded with 24x96000 tracks and a USB DAC, hopefully a SABRE-32 puppy like W4S.

I am also bringing Kerry's BHSE and he is bringing mine, if he finishes it!  I scored some genuine late breakup XF2's ... supposedly really from the Blackburn factory, who the heck knows ... not sure if I will bring them. Kerry loves his modern tubes, so maybe that's good enuf.

Kerry is going to bring O2 Mk1's, so I won't bring those.  I assume Doug will have the 009's, and some others too.

A Justin commercial BHSE will be in evidence too, yes?

Someone asked for Lawton modded D5000s.  I have fully balanced Lawton modded D2000s, so called LA2000s, can bring those and a balanced-to-1/4 converter I guess.  Any interest?

Only kidding about leaving the 1627's packed.  Or maybe not.

Awesome.  I saw that transformer box on the FS forums.  Glad you were the one who grabbed it up.

I'm bringing both my O2mk1 and 009 without any amplification, so if both your BHSE and Kerry's have two Pro jacks, I'll plug both into your amps.

Also, if you need something to plug the LA2000 into, I'm probably going to bring 2x Gilmore Lite (w/ DPS).

Sidhar3 --

Great on the 009's, since Doug's might be Chicago.  Doug?

Sure we have multiple jacks on the BH's.  But my second is for an HE90.  We'll figure something out -- you can have the Stax pro jack, since you have the 009, and that wins.

Will bring the LA2000s now for sure.

GROUP BUY / DELIVERY on DIY Vibration Damping Coasters -- Delivery ONLY at this meet.

The solid maple blocks were a big hit in NJ and Queens.  But now we are getting more scientific.  I purchased a vibration meter.  Kerry and I are going to measure drain of vibration from the power transformer away from the BHSE chassis, and blockage of vibration from other stuff (we are using a table fan for the experiments) from getting in to the BHSE.

We are taking the sandwich approach: trying combinations of Maple, MDF (which some people believe is better), Cork, and Sorbothane.  Sorbothane is never on the outside since it mucks up finishes.  Trying many thickness choices too.

I have Mapleshade cork and rubber sandwiches, but they are small and have no wood.  I am going with huge 4" squares under each pointed footer.  We may dimple the top for the footer to rest in (or glue a brass disc already dimpled and intended for this use to the top square).  We will be guided by measurements.  No glue until we like the sandwich.

Anyway I am ordering huge amounts of 4" squares in all the above materials and various thicknesses (except the Sorbo which is alway 1/4" thick).  I am happy to deliver any and all of this to y'all at the meet to make your own sandwiches and experiment, or just use alone as coasters with or without equipment on top.  A can of Coke is equipment to me.  Plus I can only imagine the uses you will find for a Sorbothane square in your social life.

No need to be 100% sure -- just PM me if you think you would like a set (of some, or all, of the materials).  Figure $20 for a full set of 4 coaster sandwiches.  Anyway I will know all the costs and will not be adding any profit.  The idea is you will do your own fooling around and glue, etc.  You can also buy one 4" set and cut to make 4 1" blocks if you like that better.  You can be guided by our experiments, or do your own listening experiments, or borrow a vibration meter from your friendly auto or HVAC mechanic.

There is nothing that objective measurements and statistics can't conquer.  Expect maybe that aforementioned social life.  I guess there are times when you want a little vibration.  But not from your power transformer or household air conditioning.

Eventually we will post the results and the purchasing sources so folks not at this meet can enjoy if they like.

I just finished the week from Hell. I moved, dropped an LCD TV on to my foot, spent two days in the Hospital with a G.I. Bleed. Too much fun for words.

I'm sorry to report a scheduling conflict. The NY meet is the same weekend as the Newport Audio Show. I must attend the Newport Audio Show, so I won't be able to make it to Long Island.

I will be in Newport with at least 10 high end headphones.

Have a great Meet.
