I don't know if he owns them.

I don't know what he listened too.

I don't know the hardware.

I don't know the settings

I don't know the ideal can in comparison.

This is a 7 hour old review.

This site needs to review it's review policy as this kinda stuff makes the well thought honest evaluations that take time have to compete with this (link above)

I saw a dual set or reviews on the DX90 DAP and it must make the owners of this site sad to see folks play games with that system

Yes, they must. There are way too many reviews that aren't worth s't. Somebody has to get rid of them. I don't know if flagging reviews as spam will help, but I'll give it a try.

Common theme here between each side of the beats fence is "cool" - just used in different contexts...

The ultra ironic thing is that when you check out the guys who are the true audiophile reviewers, guys like Tyll, they'll give props to products regardless of brand. So that's why here on Head-Fi the Monster DNA has been getting some praise as well as the Beats 2013 Studios, and I still maintain that the Mixrs are a worthy purchase despite the fact that I'm wearing FAD Pandora VI's.

I truly and honestly do not care about the brand on my head, and to me, Beats are no better or worse than the rest of the products in their price range. For some they're great, for others they suck, just like others.

All valid points, so my advice would be to completely overlook reviews like that. Even if he had given more context, that doesn't mean he is an authority on the subject. You have to decide for any review or recommendation, if you trust the person giving it, and in this case I think the answer is pretty obvious.

The problem is that the bad reviews are paired up with low star ratings which mucks up the rankings and prevents products from being accurately represented. People aren't going to read through every single review and balance the validity of them on a case by case basis. They'll see if Product X is ranked near the bottom and has a 2.5/5 average.

Seems like he did the review just to give the product a one-star rating..

Why even bother?

I actually thought these were going to be good. When I tried them on at the apple store I was impressed by the comfort. They were out of power so I didn't get to test the sound or noise cancelling. I got a pair and was happy with them until I tried a pair of ATH M50.It was then that I realised just how bad they were in terms of sound quality. What's more, they attract so much attention that you feel embarrassed using them outside. To top things of, the left ear cup broke within the first month!

I actually thought beats could improve. But now I doubt they ever will.

I'm sure what they meant was:

"I got a pair [of Beats Studio 2.0] and was happy with them until I tried a pair of ATH M50.It was then that I realised just how bad they [ATH-M50] were in terms of sound quality."

Alex was happy until they got a pair of ATH-M50s. Coincidence? I think not. Alex obviously knows nothing about sound quality - they just go by whatever everyone else says about headphones on the internet. Beats=schiit, ATH-M50=king of headphones. But what they don't know is that Beats has come a long way since the Monster-tainted original Beats, and most people who are knowledgeable in the headphone scene think that the New Beats Studio are actually alright, but are still too expensive for what they are.

Also, the ATH-M50s are no longer the best headphone on the market in its price range. Some of Ultrasone and Beyerdynamic's lower end offerings blow the M50s out of the water.

They probably did this to the headphones, in which case even the M50s will break:

TBH I was never enamoured with the M50s. I heard a pair and was like "these are good" but that was it. I have no idea why they're held in such ridiculous regard.

I'll write a review of them since I have own a few pairs of them... I don't think they are terrible.. but they aren't great..

I have heard the M50 side by side with the new beats studio. I'd take the Studio. It's an easy choice for me. The guy said

So the 2 main points of those headphones were not available???...........buy them anyway. from a guy who's post history is a lot of V-Moda and not so much Beats.

I don't even think you should be able to do a review without a proof of purchase.

I have no real interest in defending Beats since they will be fine and the market will shake then up or down. That review coming off the heels of a 1 star v.s. group praise review for the DX90 which I want totally made the review system seem in need of adjustment. A 1 star reviews is valid and within rights but lets be clear as to why.

My suggestion is a "template"

with your own pics, hardware used, settings if other than flat uncolored via eq or effects, a description of sq/lows/mids/highs what it does good and what it does bad (and an example of what other can in the reviewers opinion did that bad point better)

Lotta folks already do this. Shame they get buried under lazily written stuff. I really do love this site. Seeing the review star system used as a flamethrower or fanboy vehicle just seems....:(

FWIW

I take the above and

Listening to Rah  and Wiz

I also listen to a secondary track for mids/highs

The M50 are nice. The New Studios are better in mids and highs and lows. Comparing them directly on the spot. I get other comparisons but the reviewers citing of the M50.....not on bass hits and clarity tracks......are there other test type tracks??

Disclaimer:

I have NO interest in buying beats again. I'm talking about the review and giving them 1 star with no details.....I need facts mixed in with opinion ....please:D

This review "rubs me the wrong way". He is the typical person who says Beats are trash, and the ATH-M50's are the king of all headphones. I don't know, but maybe it's just me . . . .

I was banned for 1 week before because I was a bad community member using bad language. It was fair and I came back with a better grip on not using so many 4 letter words and worse. I think I brought down the community with my behavior.

I think driving up or down hardware with star reviews (as opposed to doing a mini one in a thread) is being a bad community member. It causes friction within the community using a Head-Fi tool that should be taken much more serious. And...for Joe average who visits via a link in Google they get the real damage by unknowingly reading pure bias. That helps nobody.

Zero.

It is a problem. Beats are the focus of this thread but a focus on the reviews and who is doing them is a more pressing one for this site. Iread his post history and he was all over the Beats main rival threads....it was pretty easy to guess that and was sad to confirm it. He should get a warning or be outed as should I or anyone who participates in conduct that reflects poorly on this site as a whole.

The M50's or Beats? I've owned a total of 4 pairs of Beats in the past (now three) and zero M50s after trying out a friend's pair. They've got nothing on a Studio 1.0 minus the ANC circuit, that's for sure.

What the reviewer said was undoubtedly a lie. All authorized Beats retailers have a special tethered demo model of the New Beats Studio. The cable is not detachable, the headphones are always powered on and the power switch does nothing. It's all lies! Just judging from the comfort of the Beats vs. the M50s, one would indiscriminately favor the former over the latter.

I should write a short review that has facts mixed with opinion when I have time.

They're a hardcore M50 fanatic as opposed to a Beats fanboy/girl.

I used to own a pair of iBeats earbuds. Honestly, at the time i thought they sounded pretty good (i got them when i bought my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio). I did not know anything about audiophilia then. I also listened to the Beats Studio for a quite a bit, but when i bought my Audio Technica ATH-M50 and my Beyer DT990 Pros, i then realized how crap they sounded.

I would never look back to Beats again!!
