Final Audio Design Muramasa VIII - Page 13

Well, I am open to this, if they have the same attention to detail and quality and good sound that my heaven S's have then I think an open mind is needed. I am really looking forward to first impressions from someone.
I must say my first FAD purchase won't be my last. They are (if my pair is representative of the house sound that is) super detailed and yet are not cold, very musical I find and with just the right amount of bass for my liking. Plus they feel special to use.

Good to hear that the Heaven S live up to your expectations :)

The stand it's pictured with kind of bothers me. I dislike the idea of the metal headband resting on a metal sphere without any padding. Seems like it could lead to scratching.

If it comes with that exact stand, I'll probably put some fabric over the metal sphere part.

Nah. More likely some rolled-up pantyhose.

True that should work as well, if your going for the "ghetto style".

Yes, thanks James, they do! Initially I thought the top end a bit harsh but there were two things that changed that for me, first was burn in, something I have not thought necessary with BA's but it was the case with these, after a good hundred hours it smoothed out nicely. Secondly I realized that like the ETY's they really require a decent source and amplification. I tried them as an experiment directly out of my iPad and a great many of the things you warned me of were present. However, out of my Blackbird/CLAS/Classic they showed me that they scale with the quality of equipment used, much like the ETY's!

While it has been claimed from multiple reputable sources that FAD's products sound sweet (and from a few sources that they don't), you will find nobody on Head-Fi claiming that they're a good value.

That, my friends, is a summary of what FAD has been doing for years.

In comparison to the junk that is UE triple.fi10 at retail you will hear me say they are good value!

Holy cow it's almost a kg in weight. For those of you interested in trying it out, be prepared for 10-minute sessions followed by half an hour of neck recuperation.

I really wouldn't worry about the weight itself. It's more about the headband head skin contact dual contact point (looks sharp and almost hair cutting) and the clamping pressure induced by rigidity of the material used for the headband (will require ultra-precise adjustment with bending, to become tolerable).

Neck muscles are powerful because a human head weight a lot, impressively lot. ± 1 kilo won't make a single difference for them.

As somebody said in the original thread for the Muramasa VIII, I believe that FAD is just daring us to see how far we'll go in search of good sound by making this unwearable.

It's Muppetface that reminded us that sometimes the border separating pleasure and pain can be quite thin, especially with FinalAudioDesign headphones.

Next up in their lineup is a set up inner-ear spikes. It'll have the best audio quality of any in-ear to date, but you have to permanently damage your ears and make them useless for listening to anything else if you want to hear that kind of quality.
