The Beyerdynamic DT250 Appreciation Thread - Page 36

Not sure if it's my ears or my amp, but I might finally be coming around to the DT250-250 where I previously complained that it was too bass light. I swapped my DACport (which some say is bass light) for my Apex Glacier and it seems quite a bit better, not to mention it's pretty clean sounding. The DT250-80 seems to have a bit of glare in the midrange.

Still, I might even be wanting more treble and mids. Blurriness in those areas might be the fault of the Glacier as it's tuned to be tubey sounding. Pretty sure that the DACport is clearer sounding than the Glacier... or not.

Bought a used pair of DT 250 80 ohm recently.

First impression: Dull, boring, none engaging.

Second impression: Hm....

Third impression: No imposing features, actually sounds closer to the real thing...

Maybe I'm just beeing seduced by my first experience with a monitor headphone, but it feels as though I am becoming addicted to it ... :-)

The 80 is a decent headphone but the 250 ohm is a much better one IMO

Indeed. Despite being a former owner of many flagship tier headphones like the HD800, LCD2, and TH900 I can still go back to the DT-250 250ohm and enjoy music to its fullest. I hear all details in a fairly smooth and neutral frequency response with good soundstage for a closed headphone. EQ improves it even further in my opinion:

I'm perfectly happy with the DT250-250ohm. I don't feel like I'm missing much from higher end headphones other than soundstage.

I also have a pair of LCD-2, but when shifting directly from LCD-2 to DT 250, it almost feels as though a veil has been removed. As if all the impressive features have been taken away, and only "the real thing" has been left.

Reading through this thread gives the impression, that most people seem to prefer the 250 ohm version. If the 250 ohm versions is even better, maybe I should start the search.

I currently have the 80Ohm, I posed a little thoughts about those headphones few pages back, been using it for about 3 months now.

I Have ordered a Schiit Modi/Magni stack and should get this sometime at the end of the month.

Really enjoying these headphones, though I am thinking of maybe selling my 80ohm and buying the 250ohm version, but I'm not sure, will it be worth buying the 250ohm version? Will I hear a difference?

Also what will be the best site for lossless music of all kinds?

Thanks, Ben.

Virtax, please read my comparison of the 80 ohm vs 250 ohm. The difference is big.

They must be using different drivers, better cup dampening, and/or the drivers are tuned differently because the sound difference is so big. I sold my DT250-80 a few weeks ago so this is my comparison from memory.

- The DT250-250 has a more smoother and neutral frequency response. No annoying midrange resonance that the DT250-80 has.
- The DT250-250 has significantly better bass texture and accuracy. The DT250-80's housing would vibrate quite a bit more and doesn't sound as clean in the bass.
- The DT250-250 has more treble sparkle and an overall more smooth treble. The DT250-80 lacked some upper treble and whatever treble was present was a little bit harsh.
- The DT250-250 is harder to drive and less efficient than the DT250-80. They still good out of an iPhone for low dynamic-range pop and electronic music but for higher dynamic range jazz and classical an amp is a must. I'm using a Leckerton UHA-6S.MKII which provides more than enough volume. The DT250-80 doesn't really need an amp if you're using them straight out of an iPhone.

If you are a DT250-80 user and already enjoy them, I urge you to upgrade to a DT250-250 and get an amp (Fiio E12 is a good choice) because they are so much better.

Hm I guess I will sell my 80ohm version and purchase the 250 one's, will the Magni be enough for them?

It's also worth mentioning that I'm no way near an audiophile or something like that, I don't have ears like you guys, so maybe I will not hear such a big difference?

Thanks, Ben.

The Magni will be more than enough for them.

Upgrade if you want better sound quality. If the 80 ohm version satisfies you then there's no need to upgrade.

Lol - are you reading the same thread that I'm reading? They sound like they are well worth their normal $200 price tag, let alone a ridiculous $28 price tag. SOLD!!!

We will see if they honour that price though.
