Will the hifiman accept stereo plugs (1/4th) or mini (1/8th)?

1/8. There's no room on the standard unit for 1/4. However that 1/8 jack supports balanced if I'm not mistaken.

If they want to sell this HM-901 they better tell people more about it..

Hifiman is not very good with his clients, they should learn more from Fiio.

We need to know more, and the release date, will be nice, but we need accurate dates.

At least, here you will have to wait for a month...tongue.gif

To wait a month is not a problem Turokrocks, but to ask 1000$ for something you don't really want to  tell your clients about is a diffrent story.

Even iBasso was really helpful untill i've purchased my DX100, but i think i will stick with Fiio products in the future, and i hope that iRiver will become what it was once ...

They did post update over at erji.net (and a few other Chinese forum I believe) to those who have pre-ordered it in China, just not here at Head-fi as I don't think they have taken any international order yet.

You know, you are right about that. In the end its all about customer service.

why would anyone order it yet, when we can't hear it, see it, or know the specs

Nothing to see here, folks.

Head-fiers have been treated with utter indifference, regarding the HM 901, since Day 1.

Don't ask me why. Ask Fang, maybe he knows.

..maybe...

Well there is a lot of sarcasm/bitterness about hifiman players across internet forums, I think Fang wants the product to sell itself due to word of mouth rather than throw himself in the lion's den

With good reason.

First things first, speaking only for myself, I'm immune to such innuendos, just so you know.

Aside from that, if Fang wishes to improve the situation, he would be wiser to treat people with some respect, which means:

* Not ignoring genuine potential customers for months at a time

* Not talking down competitors' products (particularly when the competing products are real physical products available for actual purchase, rather than the (current) vaporware to which they are being compared). Very unprofessional...

* Not treating potential customers as though they're stupid

* Managing customer expectations of product release dates in an open and sincere fashion. We all understand that there are sometime delays, but a little open communication goes a long way to ameliorating this, rather than deafening 'tumbleweed silence'.

* Not releasing products at very high prices with a deliberate pricing structure to immediately hike the price even further with amp cards or whatever which should rightly be included in the initial outlay as standard.

Get the above sorted and (provided the product performs as well as Fang claims it does...), then I might willingly open my wallet and reward his development efforts with a purchase, as I'm sure many other Head-fiers would, too.

That's really not asking anything unreasonable.

The DX100, which was quite blatantly implicated in one such post, has been on the market now for well over 6 months. It's not perfect, but it's in customers' hands, giving them a lot of listening pleasure. If memory serves me correctly, the HM-901 was announced at approximately the same time as the DX100 was initially announced. I don't know if this was a strategic move to dissuade a proportion of iBasso's potential DX100 customers from making their move until they'd heard an HM-901, nor do I care. All I can say is that I bought a DX100 and the thing sounds fantastic. Did it take the 3yrs+ to develop that is claimed for the HM-901? I doubt it. Did iBasso charge customers extra for an amp card? No. Did they manage customers' expectations with regard to release date? For the most part, Yes.  Did they talk down the Colorfly or the HM-801 in the run-up to the DX100 release? No.

Just observe the enthusiasm with which this thread began (observe that I was as enthusiastic as anyone else, about the HM-901), and then the way it has been left to meander and decay, due to scant official input from Fang, and on the very rare occasions when he did put in an appearance, look what was said/incinuated.

You'd be amazed at how much sarcasm would disappear from internet forums, under better circumstances...

Given my obvious disdain for the current situation surrounding the HM-901, one might reasonably ask why I continue to watch, and contribute, to this thread. Well, the simple fact is that, in spite of all my migivings, I still hold out hope that Fang might actually come up with the goods - he and his design/engineering team have, by their own assertion, had over 3 years to develop the 901. In spite of limited finances, I am willing to pay for high-end portable hi-fi gear. But this requires Fang to walk his walk, rather than just talking his talk.

The world is watching and (still) waiting. It's his move...

The funniest thing is that Fang was criticized a few years ago by many Chinese for not selling the HM801 in China first (IIRC they got it almost a year after HF, if not more) when the back of HM801 says 'designed and made in China'. Now the situation is reversed - It is kind of funny and puzzling, but ironic at the same time rolleyes.gif

Just made the payment. I am on the 801 to 901 exchange list now. ;) But like I said I will be more than happy if I get one by the end of this year.redface.gif

I am sure this won't be an issue anymore, as long as Fang doesn't promote 901 too much in Japan
