So this DAP is going to cost 1000 $? Then if is perfect, UI, SQ and build quality i may order one.I was not happy with DX100, and i hope this one doesn't have the pop up noise.

As others have noted, Fang has already announced that it will.

By the way, even the HM801 takes 128GB SD cards so it would really be odd if its replacement, the HM901 doesn't.  I have three 128GB SD cards that I use with my HM801 with no issues whatsoever.  You just have to format the cards to FAT32.

That would be nice but then again I wouldn't hold my breathe. The Hifiman 801 and 601 had the same issues.

I talked to Ms T last week and she said she does not know when its coming out but she did say she is going to ask feng about it this week when he comes out to new york. I am willing to buy it and have the money set aside but i want to know more official details before the purchase. I hear too much info about it through third parties that i do not know who to trust. Is it going to use two sabre dacs, does it have a built in usb dac or do you have to buy the dock, how much are the extra amps, will there be a deal for preorders, is it better than the 801 because i do not know of sample a/b comparison impressions, is it better than the rsa intruder/dx100?

According to Fang's HM-901 Inner Fidelity interview it will indeed have two ESS SABRE 9018 DACs in it.

From the pictures it will have no USB input, you will need to purchase the dock (sold separately).

No idea about extra amps or preorders.

lol two 9018? what's the point in that? Just so it has one more than iBasso?

My thoughts exactly. Unless they are trying to do something similar to the Sflo2, one per each channel. Still the implementation will still have its limits with that set-up. We'll see.

No idea what they are trying to do here, 9018 doesn't need one per channel. Hell Kingwa's (audio GD) top of the line balanced Sabre DAC has 1 chip for all channels.

Bragging rights and nothing more as far as I'm concerned ;).

The HM-901 does look very nice in hand and seem to have high quality build.

I can't wait for review.I heard it took them few years to build this from scratch, anybody know more?

This is the first review that I've found, but when translated it's not always easy to work out what they're saying! http://mp3.zol.com.cn/327/3279005.html

So many mechanical buttons and switches... I actually like how it looks. Why it has vents or a HD/vintage switch, however, I don't understand.

Still need to find out what the output impedance will be. The fact that it has two Sabre DAC's gives me a headache... who would want to pay for that?

The more I read about the choices in the HM-901, the more they reflect the impression that Fang is some proud eccentric audiophile artist designer. Some of the choices he made are confusing. I feel making the HM-901 a unique, personalised device was more of an imperative than creating a balanced high performing yet still economical device.

EDIT: fixed typos.

Fang said that the vents are for heat dissipation. The HD/Vintage switch is used to switch on/off the treble roll-off.

I can figure out what they do. It's why they decided to implement them that way that leaves me wondering. For example, having a hardware button for the treble roll off is a bizarre choice as it's not likely to be used much and being mechanical makes it more susceptible to failing. For an option like that, why wouldn't they just provide it in the firmware?

And what other handheld devices can you name that need heat vents? Compromising the casing means it's easier to harm the device with moisture, etc. I remember my HM-601 screen got dust and dirt stuck on the inside of the screen, compromising it's visibility and useability. I'm guessing it got through the SD card slot. Regardless of how it got there, it's a reflection of poor design.

Just bizarre choices...
