For anyone interested..

I read on a Chinese website that the Hifiman 901 has an official release date of October the 1st.. The recommended retail is 5999 yuan. Owners of the 801 will have an upgrade price of 2500 yuan as a trade in..

The base has analogue output, digital output, digital input and USB decoding function ( as best as i can translate )

If this is old news i appologize... If it is not then i hope it is of interest..

From Hifiman's site:

Seems to be some sort of a digital dock.

Nice idea, but I have serious reservations about Hifiman's pricing of this combo, and their attitude towards customers. Still, if they buck up their ideas, this may be a decent offering, so I am trying to keep an open mind.

That said, I do not anticipate that the HM901 will be the DX100-killer that, thus far, they seem to be trying to imply. I think they'll both be good, but of equivalent ability, with different aural flavours. Although I was recently forced to sell my DX100, I really like its SQ and I fully expect to buy another DX100 in future.

I must say, I think iBasso are missing an opportunity - they should develop a Hi-fi dock for the DX100 (not the Hibino hunk of aluminium).

Anyway, will someone please wake me up from suspended animaton when Hifiman finally release the HM901..?

...thanks! wink.gif

Just grabbed this picture from erji.net.

HM901 production run is currently delayed due to a supplier's delay on a switch delivery. Early impressions (on the final production demo unit) from two persons all suggesting that HM901 is noticeably better than HM801.

Looks quite nice. Looking forward to unbiased comparisons to the DX100 :).

Interesting that the size looks to be similar (just a tad thinner) to the HM-801. When I saw the earlier prototypes back in May, I don't recall it being that big. In fact there were multiple prototype versions and the older prototype version was bigger than the "then-newer" prototype. As with lee730, looking forward to comparisons to the DX100.

I will have to compare it with DX100 and 801.:) I gonna a feeling its high is somewhere between 801 and DX100, so it doesn't lose the musical feeling of mids. Although the first impression on erji stated that 901 doesn't have the mids as rich as 801. will need to actually hear it to be certain.

I was surprised too that it looks actually that big
