Fat-Sam was on Sky-sports last night saying a top ten finish was the aim of the game pmsl... none of the new signings has sparked enthusiasm, I fear another crap season with Pinball-Cole leading the line, still if it wasn't misery it wouldn't be West Ham... and don't even mention that poxy Olympic Stadium.

here's my prediction for West Ham's season... in deep dog-do by mid December, we sack Fat-Sam and bring back Harry Redknapp and just avoid getting relegated, Harry is proclaimed to be the new 'Messiah'... unbeknown to Harry, 'Rosie the Dog' gets caught pawing over a bung to a player, the Premier league finds the mutt guilty and we get deducted points so are relegated, Harry denies all knowledge about his Monaco contact.

so what do you reckon on this new HM901, worth a punt?... like your Linn Turntable very nice.

I'll be snapping up a 901 as soon as I can. Yes, I agree with you all about clunkiness of operation (I wish the shuffle wouldn't always play the same tracks every time you turn it on, for example) but I love the sound of my 801 and find the 601 markedly better than all other players I've owned, like the Cowon J3, Sony X and S series, Rio Karma, not to mention various Archos machines (actually I think I shoud keep quiet about those!).

The 801 with UM Miracles is sublime but that doesn't stop me hankering after more. Always been like that, as my long-suffering wife will attest...

I'm very interested in the trade-in option but haven't been able to find out yet how to do this from the UK. If anybody finds out, it would be great if you could post it on here.

good well be true! - I can't stand Saggy Chops, he's the man that sold Rio and bought Dailly and Song with the money!

HM-901 - going by pedigree it should be good, but I don't like the silly dock, whats wrong with RCA line out?

Will it sound better than my 601/Voyager combo? Will we be able to actually see one in the UK? is  Fang coming in September?

I didn't like the UI demo, not that that will stop me buying anything. It's all about the sound, I don't care about size, battery life, etc just the sound. but it

will have to be a CD12 killer for me to get that docking station, for a start where will I put it?

Buying this type of thing blind is bad practice and buying on a professional review is even worse.

Again I will rely on the army of amateurs to let us know what it is really like.

I didn't know what the 801 sounded like either. I'm willing to take the chance. This is my hobby and music is my passion. I like upgrading and buying new things. From my experience of Hifiman so far I have every confidence it will sound great. I can afford it. It has a higher capacity (SDXC). It has a better display. It's not touch screen.

I think the same thing plus it is not a Android DAP, I do nothing against Google, I have a Galaxy Nexus but I like having a dedicated audio device. The energy required to run an OS can be for example used by a second DAC :)

Thanks, yes, it was a genuinely non aggressive question.

As someone who spent a little time in Hi-End audio retail, where we would not sell an item

without the customer hearing it, I find the modern way we are forced to buy products blind a bit

uncomfortable, although I of course have to do it myself.

I am thinking of starting up something in retail so the psychology of the buyer fascinates me.

i have a question to Fang :

actually this may be a little of topic but i can't help myself and wonder if there will be a revision "also" on the 60x series soon. with the release of 901 the gap in sq difference between 901 and 60x series will widen up most probably by a serious margin, and i guess it would be a real winner move to "debug the design" of 60x series and create, say HIFIMAN 70X..? it would be a real joy to see some 901 features in the box like :

- better sound quality

- linear 20 - 20kHZ frequency with no roll-offs

- better firmware

- better battery life

- usable equalizer

- better hd audio support

- no touchscreen

- better signal to noise ration and less distortion

i have 601 at the moment, and i (supposedly among many people) seriously can think of upgrading if such a dap is released.

Your easiest way of upgrading would be to add a good amp. The line out

from the 601 is superb. I use mine with a Graham Slee Voyager and have no wish to

upgrade.

thanks for comment kt66. however i found it seriously impractical to use a dap with an external amp which already has an internal amplifier section. and besides, hifiman 601 has some certain flaws that can easily be overcome with a new & better design. with the features added that i mentioned above, it would be a real killer product. and i bet Fang is aware of that.
