Hifiman just annouced the releasing date for China.

They will start to take orders of 901 from 15/08/2012 (only eligible to 801 customers if you wish to exchange your 801 with some extra money to 901).

01/10/2012 for all customers.

Don't know how they will release 901 internationally though.

RMB 5999 with standard amp card. That's about $940 without external stand, without other amp cards.

Where did you see that? Google didn't come up with anything.

And I thought my G skills were weak. Thanks. Well I was original 801 buyer but I sold mine. Not sure if Fang will let me pre-order it again.

It's not about whether you are a owner or not owner of 801. If you want to preorder you have to have one 801 send back to the company. because they need that chip.

That is incorrect. I am the owner of a secondhand HM-801, and it's not eligible for the upgrade, as I am not the original buyer.

So which is it? And can anyone provided a source?

Hmm really? who told you that? The update from hifiman didn't state anything about secondhand owner or original buyer. They just said send the 801 back if you wish to exchange 901. Also how will they know whether you are orignial buyer or not?

Simple, if you can't provide the invoice/receipt when ordered, you're SOL.  A lot of second/third hand sales don't include a receipt/invoice. Even if it did, its up to the merchant to honor the warranty/trade or not, which there's a high probability that they won't.

Mrs. T told me this. I am currently in the process of getting a replacement for my HM-801, which stopped functioning. I suggested the upgrade thinking that they might be out of HM-801's for replacements, which is when she explained me that I could only do that if I was the original buyer.
