See that there? looks like the side. Bottom only has one exit and it already seems like its for Line Out.

The 901 banner ad that was running here on head-fi recently clearly showed the SD slot to be on the side of the player, and kenman345's pic, above, also shows this (the 'SD' logo is clearly visible)

And it also seems like a regular SD card, which is nice that they had the space for it. I wonder after seeing those pictures from the CD if they tried the iPod test (Jobs famously dumped a first gen iPod in a cup/bucket of water and said too many bubbles came up, and they needed to make it smaller/reduce the excess space.

thanks - so the slot at the bottom is for the line out?

I don't see how a cable would get in?

sorry for being so dim

As mentioned previously, it appears as though it might be a wide, flat connector similar to the type used on iPods
post #276 of 733

Yea, these things. It appears like the cables used for line out during the convention/thing that i was not at (obviously) uses some type of pins or board to interface with the device. This is similar to how an iPod implements line out

Crossing the 1k$ mark is certainly going to be a big turnoff for most of the potential customers.

Even at about $800 most people think it's too expensive - including me (bought my HM-801 used).

Anyway - all of this is of course just speculation ...

so what is your opinion about Altman terra-player, a player that cost more than 1k$ and doesnt have screen, on/off button, small, no features, ugly, etc?

some people still bought it.

it costs a lot more to build things in Germany than China,

but I agree his price is typical hifi nonsense.

I have never heard the Altmann Tera Player, But I would love to have one in my hand (and then run away). I'm just joking but seriously, the guy wrote by hand the assembly involved to take the wav source files and play the music they encode. I am a computer science major and upon hearing about his work was greatly inspired in my Assembly class, only to realize it's pretty damn hard to do. The guys a genius and while it may be a bit obsessive, I can only imagine that the Tera Player sounds quite amazing.

Back on topic. Full sized SD card? who was at the show and can comment on what they saw.

My point is the competition and market the 802/901 is in, and I didn't say nobody will buy it at that price, but that at $1,250 the price will limit sales figures quite a lot, especially when the DX100 is only $829 (IIRC). Audiophile DAPs is already a niche and the Altman player is in the extremes of this niche. In comparison the DX100 seems quite mainstream! Anyway, as I said, all this is of course speculation as we haven't heard anything official from HiFiMAN about the price when ordering from Head-Direct.

It looks ok  but not that great IMO. Maybe the pictures aren't doing it justice. It looks a bit fragile and plasticy from the pics...

this, is a bad move.

it needs a LOD?

From what I can see, i think it might. Hopefully Fang will be bringing a prototype to the NYC Head-Fi Meet Up in two weeks and I'll be able to tell you what I find out.
