The earbuds at airplanes can sometimes be better than mediocre.

the airplane earbuds have to be the worst, i havent heard them for a long time. but if i remember right, sometimes you even hear white noises coming out from them, and not to mention the extreme muffleness...

Stax SR-009, because one has to remortgage their house to afford it. Damn it Stax, why take food out of the one's mouth to feed thy ears?

That's it, let's settle this outside.

The AKG K 315 earbuds are by far the worst brand phones I've heard, and for $32 they're an obscene ripoff. They sound exactly like a pair of Creative buds I got bundled with my $20 mp3 player – I measured them against each other and they're literally the same. Horrible boxy sound.

Did anyone try listening to the airplane headphones using their good portable rigs?

Skullcandy Holua IEMs. Worst things ever. I can't believe they originally cost 100$. I paid 40$ and felt ripped off.

I built some speakers out of plastic cup following this guide.  It sounded about as nice as it looked.

oh my god, don't mention the Image Ones. better than the solos, but they still sounded as if someone was hitting you over the head with an axe inside a cardboard box. :(
