Help with 2.1 setup

How ironic that the passive partisans often fault the active activists of underplaying the complexity of cabling.  From the looks of it, it seems passive systems are even more hobbled by cabling complexities.

Yeah, because a newbie who has hardly any idea what he's doing while trying to cudgel a stereo fullrange amp into powering a crossoverless sub obviously represents the state of the art in passive wiring

Ironically, when it comes to wiring the sub separately and doing bass management on the PC, I'm basically trying to get him to make a DIY digital active crossover so I wouldn't be pointing any fingers if I were you

Haha I'm sorry, i'm still pretty new at this. I ended up picking up a stereo RCA to Stereo RCA. Should I return it for a RCA to mono RCA? 
 
And would it go something like...
Amp 1 RCA (right)-----Amp 2 RCA (right)
Amp 1 RCA (left)_____|
 
and then speaker cable on the Subwoofer
Red----left speaker output (Amp 2)
Black__|
 
(where the ----- and | are wires)
 
 
As for the PC program, I have a mac :frowning2: and I'm connecting using a RCA to 3.5mm. I feel like I'm going to get scolded for my newbness. I apologize in advance.

Yeah return it for a stereo to mono RCA
 
If you adapt the two channels to Amp 2 RCA (right) you'd obviously want to connect the sub to the right speaker output, otherwise your wiring "diagrams" are fine.
 
What kind of mac?  Macs are advanced audio machines too I'm sure you'll work something out.  How many audio outputs does it have, maybe take another photo?

hahaha it's just a simple macbook pro that has a 3.5mm jack. I don't think there are any other audio outputs. 
 
As for the amp situation, is it possible to just sell these two to find an easier solution? I'm wondering how this setup would work in terms of my electricty bill..hehe.

Why would you recommend an active 2 channel system to someone whom is just getting into entry level hifi? Just buy a cheap stereo receiver that has a sub out. You can pick up a Harmon Kardon 3490 for under 300 bucks, and that would not only provide you with a sub out but also sound much better than your current setup. Or even better would be to pick up a 7.1 channel receiver that has room correction. You can get a Yamaha 663 for under 175.00 or a Denon 1907 for less. Both of those have room correction, good power output, and subwoofer outputs.

Maybe I haven't read as much, but from watching some youtube videos, most sub-outs consist of some kind of single plug rather than the typical Right/Left speaker wire inputs. Is there some sort of converter I would need to buy to go from R/L wire --> single plug -->speaker out ?

I'd say your best bet is to buy the MA-1 amp for your sub or trade your passive sub for an active sub with its own crossover and power supply.
 
I think Bigg35 doesn't realize that your sub is passive like I didn't at first so his comment regarding sub-out isn't very useful for now.
 
You could try wiring the two amps like I mentioned in the last post.  It'd pretty much work except your sub won't have a crossover.  You could mute the main speakers and see if the sub plays too high or distorts at high frequencies because of this. You could get by on such a setup until you get the MA-1 or get an active sub with its own crossover.
