Fake Beats Mods?

Thread Starter

I recently acquired a pair of fake Beats Studios (someone gave them to me after they purchased Colorware'd Pro's). I don't really like how they sound, and was wondering if I could replace the 40mm driver with another (ribbon maybe?). My budget for a driver is around $40. Any suggestions on what kind of driver and where I should look? I could really use a pair of studio headphones, so I don't really need the bass heaviness of the original Beats.

Thanks!

I'll post pictures if I mod them!

^Wow easy way to get your post count up -_-" maybe post something helpful next time...

There are a list of mods you are capable of doing with headphones, you could make some new, high quality cables, and test them out on there, change the plug on it to something different, and more visually appealing, not sure how it goes as far as paint, but you might be able to change the paint on them, and show them off, change the padding, switch the drivers out so they don't sound so terrible, and perhaps just sell them on the site with the title of fake beats so people know they are fake. People could buy them for reasons such as the pads, the cord, the driver, to look cool, or any other worthwhile parts out there using in them. Hope I helped.

Cheers!

Since Beats are closed headphones (as far as I know!), you should look into the mods done on other closed headphones. Similar concepts can be applied to these Fake Beats you found.

If you look around the Forum > Equipment Forums > Headphones (full-size), you will find that many of the longest threads actually contain A LOT of modding information. This is especially true of the Orthodynamic Roundup page (although not -all- information here can be applied to the Beats since the driver type is difference). Depends how far you want to go.

Though some of the basic materials you can try for some easy, preliminary and reversible mods are blue tack and/or plasticine (non-drying modeling clay), cotton and porous materials like felt or sponge or the synthetic likes. Also remember that if you heard of any mod for speakers or for car audio systems, you can take part of it or change it to apply them to headphones!

**EDIT**

whoops fail. Of course I missed the line about changing drivers biggrin.gif like THE KEYWORD of the whole darn thread! Sorry frown.gif

Start by finding out the size of the drivers as well as how much room you have to mess around with it. Only changing the driver will not solve everything. Well, sometimes, but not likely.
