You may want to ponder if you want to get your hands on Ortofon tips - they're much softer and fit better than the stock ones.

+1 and they also open up the sound quite a bit.

got my 334's they came with the ortofon tips, they are softer,  i wish they had a larger bore opening, A/Bing the stock and ortofon, the stock have a more open airy feel, mids and highs are more extended, which is a shame because the ortofon are comfortable.

i have a question what series of the 334 have the shiny back housing?

i am pairing the 334 with the Astell & Kern AK120 i just got.

That's an interesting observation, Mooses9. I recall there was an extended discussion on this some time back on this thread. I recall the consensus appeared to lean towards it opening up the sound as posted by EveTan.

Other than the fact that our ears all perceive sound differently, the other possibility is this: because the Ortofon tips are so soft, you may tend to wear them further in your ear than you would with the stock tips, which are pretty stiff. So, one suggestion is to either use one size up or to resist the temptation to push it too far in. No harm experimenting. :)

As the shiny black housing, iirc that is from the early batches of the 334.

That's a nice pairing! That's what I started out with when I first picked up the 334. It works beautifully with the Hifiman HM901 and 802 as well. Not so good pairing with AK100 or the Fiio X3, the latter having way too dark a sig to have any meaningful synergy with the 334. Pretty good pairing with the iBasso DX100 and DX50 as well.

All I can say is enjoy! :)

Yea according to Gavin, ortofons work best when they are softened by ear sweat and grime. Sounds gross but it did make a difference for me. You can def break in those tips.

Does anyone have any graphs comparing the f111 to the f334?  Preferably from the same source?

Interesting, I would describe the changes as the opposite - stock tips as more of a closed in, more mid-centric, slightly bloated grado'esque thing going on.  The ortofons seem to split the diff between the stock and the triple flanges that come with it, which is distant and tinny to my ears.  The ortofons are pretty soft though and if I push them in too far they can close up which doesn't sound so hot.

The shiny 334s are the first gen, second gen started Jan last year.  They sound the same, 2nd gen just a bit more robust (but not as pretty!) in the finish and connectors.

I have large ear canals, and I bought these on a whim to use on my Parterre's. I have tried lots of tips and so far these work great for me.  Comfortable, soft like the Ortofon and larger (even the large Ortofon's are on the smaller side, and I don't get as good a seal).  These also have quite a large bore opening, like the stock tips, which I prefer soundwise.  Lastly, they're pretty cheap! Anyway, worth a try!
