Congrats on your L3 purchase Sara, will you have a dac to go with it?

Hiss: I bought a 3.5MM plug resistor adapter, which my 334s will plug into. I purchased it off Ebay  and specified 30 ohm impedance, which was suggested to me by someone who is using one. Any hiss should be removed.

The answer to DAC is a big YES. I am in search mode looking everywhere! I'm reading about the Stoner Acoustics UD 100 to the Calyx DAC......and everything in-between! blink.gif I am going crazy LOL

I have the Fostex HP-P1 for portable and so, now, looking for a USB powered DAC to use with my computer. Any suggestions please PM me or post here.

I will be using my 334s most of the time with the computer~USB DAC so it could a place in the thread.

I'll be using my MBP Retina and the Triad L3. Right now using iTunes or VLC. Most all my music is in ALAC.

Music mix: 75% Classic Rock/Blues/ some metal. 10% Pop/R&B/Show tunes, 10% Jazz, 5% trying to broaden my scope :)

Musicality 'fun', engaging, wide sound stage rather than absolute transparent sound is the signature I'd like to have in a DAC.

I recommend Centrance HIFI M8 for the following reasons.

1) It has tonal control so you will still have bass and treble control. The treble is much needed with fitear 334 (just a little air and its perfect for my liking). Three levels of bass sonic shaping, for matching to various headphones and  Three levels of treble sonic shaping, for matching to various headphones

2) It ability to go fully balance.

3) its sound quality is at least as good as the Centrance own Dacmini desktop amp with dac or better but smaller in size and portable. It's has been commented that the Dacmini is as good if not better than the Woo WA6 fully loaded.

4) It can be configure with 2 headphone jack, so you and partner/lovers can share (sharing is love)

5) Three levels of output impedance, for best headphone linearity.

6) It has gain switch to cater for IEMS

7) Michael of centrance confirm that M8 is dead quiet - no hiss whatsoever..

8) It support Idevice.. which works like your fostex Hp-p1.

9) It can also be use with your PC via USB.

10) They are also looking into Andriod device but no promise yet..

In a way it acheive no hiss with tg334 (impedence switch), more bass for you (3 level bass shaping), works with apple/PC and is portable.

I have already pre-order mine with a big discount and sold all my other portable amps already. Here is the link http://centrance.com/products/hifi-m8/

I am using AKG 3003i with dacport 1 ohm mod. I already start missing my fitear 334 :(  Now I am looking forward at fitear new models and thinking of picking up when its release. I will also be picking up Sony new MDR 1R. another thick sound with excellent bass witth some great treble. Its sound similar to HD650 but better. Jude has rank it as the best portable headphone under $500. Its reference grade and selling cheap at $299.

Also looking at tralucent 1 plus 2 ver.2 or 3.

There's no pre-order page, there's a thread in the portable source forum with info. For information regarding the pre-order send an email to hifi-m8@centrance.com there was a limited amount of spots, I'm not sure if it's filled yet or not.

They all sound like excellent choices. I've heard the 1 plus 2 ver 1 and was impressed.

You send them a email and ask. As I understand, they are getting close to first run being spoken for.

Here's the thread: A lot of reading but mostly good info:  http://www.head-fi.org/t/622939/the-centrance-hifi-m8-thread

IMO the 334s are far superior to the AKGs, especially if you pick up the 000 cables from FitEar. The soundstage just blows you away, and it totally feels like you're in a concert hall.

I got the MDR-1R and they're an ok pair of cans.

With tralucent, I really liked the new 2plus1 and hope to get a pair soon smily_headphones1.gif

EDIT: damn spelling on an ipad

You know with the MDR-1Rs and the TG!334s, they're really opposite end of the budget spectrum ;-). I do like the 1Rs and they've been growing on me since my review - having said that I had to return them to Sony. Of course no where near the level of the TG!334s but for walking around and little fear of misplacing them since they're not expensive.

Interesting about the 334's and 000. I found the difference between the 000 and the stock cable to be a slight improvement - and this is even after balancing the 000's. Having said that, the stock cable already "blew me away".

One thing I'd like to note though. Back in May & July when ALO Audio and I got the 000 cables, I had ALO slice and balance my 000's. Back then FitEar wouldn't reveal what the cable was made of. As such whilst ALO was doing the balancing, they found out that it's pure silver. 2 weeks ago when I met ALO again, I asked them for a re-confirmation and they did that their 000 sample and my July-purchased 000 was indeed silver.

However in recent Monet news, there was information about the 000 cable published and it said it was silver-plated copper. If FitEar followers remember correctly there was a time the 000 went out of stock (think in August or September). I'm wondering if the 000 has gone for a change during these past few months and it's content changed from pure silver to silver-plated copper.
