Well, I have been on a quest to get what I feel is the full potential of my 334s. I have changed amp, spent much time finding the right tips and swapped cables. I am now on my 3rd aftermarket cable, having owned the Alo sxc, the 000 and now the reference Whiplash TWag V2 gold 8 conductor. My quest ends right here with the Whiplash.
The reason I decided to try this very expensive upgrade was to see if it was possible to have the sweet treble the Alo had, and at the same time have the fullbodied feel of the mids and lows that the 000 brings. I did conclude before that the 000 was better suited for my tastes than the Alo as an allround performer. However, ever since selling the Alo I have not been able to enjoy some of my bass heavy recordings that needs that extra sparkle and the 000 gives them a slightly bass bloated feel.
The TWag V2 gold which is solid silver with 1% added gold really is what the 334s needed to please me leaving wanting nothing else.
The slight bass bloat the 000 gave some tracks have vanished, still the punch is just as solid only more contolled than before. The treble the alo had is now present and to top it off the mids are even more pronounced than with any I have tried so far.
For those not beliving in cables adding to sq there are the practical things to consider, as well as build quality.
On this it is another A+ to Whiplash. It is way softer than the 000, it has NO memory wire. This makes a big difference for me, I find it so much more comfortable without that stiff part round my ear, and now they never pop out after inserting like they used to.
Microphonics are horrible on the stock cable, as bad on the alo, and worse on the 000. With the twag it is minimal and the best of those mentioned. Then there is the looks and pure build quality, and to sum that up in one word, it must be: outstanding!
Finally I think I can do no better without going to Tokyo..... All in my opinion of course, but I strongly reccomend it to those wanting to really see what the 334s are capable of. (That is alot!!!)
