Query, so someone in Japan will be able to order the 334 togo on my behalf and then send it over? No way I can directly order it at the price they advertise on their local website?

That sounds feasible but the problem is having your impressions done by someone that Fit Ear authorizes.

Haha thought about it but the one that I may like costs too much where I am. I found the 333s too forward and a little too bright. But the sound blew me away.

Well if that is the case the 334 may be right up your alley. I don't consider the 334 to be too bright besides the treble spikes I picked up on. The mids where quite forward though if that is what you mean by being too forward? The bass is quite plentiful and I'd say helps in making the sound less fatiguing. Although the lingering decay was a bit peculiar for me. Still I haven't heard one of the more recent units which I hear sounds a bit different. So I'm still open to hearing what they sound like. Sometime this year I'll be able to demo a unit so I'll keep an open mind about them :).

I've been recommended the Merlin which oddly is the only custom that doesn't have additional costs on top of the manufacturer's cost. JH 10x3 which I didn't mind, costs approx 1250 usd or 1500 sgd all in including impressions. Then I tried the fitear and got sad. I didn't get to try the 335s but was told it would suit what I like. Cost is over 2500usd ie over 3000sgd.

It's over my current budget and the premium I pay here isn't worth it in my opinion.

I'm coming from IE8s but I eq my bass down and treble up. The one thing I like bout em is being able to feel the sub bass. The only part I worry about with the fitear.

In summary, that is partially why I'm looking at the Merlin or going universal with fitear and getting it direct. Fitear has less bass but the SQ was mind blowing. 333s would probably fatigue me. I can't sample Merlins where I am unfortunately.

What about Miracles (I am a fanboy).

I'm not sure. I'm looking for something fun and from what I'm reading, the Merlin suits me more than the Miracle. Happy to be proven otherwise though

 

I'd add a few candidates to your list of universals. In particular, the Ocharaku Flat4 which is one of the best IEMs I've heard when it comes to sub bass. It's U shaped but still reference class. Retails for around 450 USD but performs on the level of IEMs twice the price in my opinion. Also consider the Sennheiser IE800, which is vastly better than the IE8 and IE80 to my ears.

Yes Merlins are supposedly more fun are they have punchier bass. In my opinion Miracles are just beautiful with everything, and they sound fun enough with hip hop for instance. But they are more elegant than fun.

Have you considered the Tralucent 1Plus2? Definitely power to its sub bass yet it is extremely controlled. It's a neutral IEM though IMO. But if you wanted to make it more colored simply changing its standard silver cable to the gold one will yield such results. Personally I love how it sounds with the stock silver cable. :) Still there is a waiting list to my knowledge as they are booked until March... The 8As are another good option IMO in reference to musical and fun sounding. I absolutely love both of them :).

I'm of the understanding that the IE800 has a very different sound sig from the 8 and 800 though.

I'll have a read on the flat4. I'm using my mobile so using short forms where possible.

At the end of it all, I want something fun but it has to be a significant upgrade on my IE8s.

What music do you go for? And what's the damage on those?

I'll send you a PM to deter the derailment. But I do listen to several genres of music. I have a rather open-mind in that regard. As long as it catches my ear I must have it :).
