spkrs01, earlier in the thread you were slightly critical of the pure silver cable describing it as removing the heart and drive of the music on shure SE535ltd and being too shrilly with lots of siblilance when used with W4R, i did not agree with any of that when i briefly tried W4R with silver cable but now i am listening to it again with my 9 strand silver i/c and i find i am still not finding it shrilly but i do think its a little hollow sounding? or maybe thin? i think silver does make the sound thinner, when i had the W3 i tried a silver i/c with them and i thought it improved them by bringing in more detail and the sound was not as thick but when using it W4R its just not worth it compared to baldur, similar to results with shure SE535ltd the price and performance of silver cables is high but baldur has a much lower price and almost equal performance as far as detail is concerned, in addition to that silver cables also require amping, without it bass is lacking, baldur on the other hand does not require an amp, for me baldur is by far the best choice
Hi. Yes with the silver cable, you really need very good ancillary components to bring out the best out of this cable. And I am in total agreement that for the best bang for the money, the Baldur mk2 cable is really hard to beat. It really brings glimpses of magic with any source!

So does the silver cable work better with the triad L3?

Yes, with the SE535ltd. That was as far as the Shures would go. Adding a silver/gold hybrid to the SE535ltd added nothing while the W4 really took another huge step forward and excelled, leading me to believe that the W4 is a great universal. Will be interesting when I receive the K3003 and compare, same price points!!!

I have changed the tips on my W4R from comply to the grey silicone tips and using W4R with a pure silver cable is not a good combination, i am now in complete agreement with sprks01, the sound is too shrilly with lots of sibilince, vocals are piercing with a hissing sound especially female vocals but overall the sound is too sharp and the sibilince of course, if you already have a silver cable that fits W4R then try it but don't go and buy a $300 silver cable to use with W4R because the sound is just unnatural and it makes the music uncomfortable to listen to
I'm just wondering where did you buy the Baldur MKII pro cable for the westone 4r's? I live in australia and can only find ebay selling the cable for $289. Is that worth the price?
thanks

It's the listed price for the Pro version yes (quad-braided).
You could go for the normal Baldur MKII (only 2 strands), which is half the price. This is the one most people here have been talking about.

No baldur MK2 pro is not worth the price, i have the normal version as well and i find little difference between them but the price difference is huge.I think
spkrs01 found similar results when he compared the two and if you don't already have the normal baldur cable i advise you to buy that because the price performance
ratio is way too high where baldur MK2 pro is concerned

i have to agree. i cant really see how the mk2 pro would farther increase the sound performance...in itsself the mk2 is pretty good for the price.
although chris himself might be a better cable option for about half the price. you cant really beat that.
Hello,
Where can I find Baldur MKII cable ? Is there a difference between Baldur MKII and Baldur MKIII ?
Have you another suggestion for Westone UM3X cable upgrade ?
Thank you.
