I am going nuts, I received Audez'e LCD-2 yesterday, cracked today - Page 3

Wow, I feel bad for you, I really don't think headphones that cost $1000 should have these kind of problems.

yeah dude I'm really sorry to see that. I mean, mine just got worse today and completely cracked on the bot of 1 side.... I think you should take some immediate action, they are pretty good at helping you out

But my LCD-2 of only 1 month and a half has a very similar crack as yours, in the same spot. :(  But the crack on mine doesn't completely fissure to the bottom. It's more of a pit then a full crack  (whereas yours seems completely cracked).

I'm thinking of just sending mine in now. I was going to hold off, but now I'm afraid it's just going to spread further. Bleh.

Are the LCD's usually known to have build problems? Kind of worried about this, seeing as they are a small company.

Don't forget Hifiman ;) -> for me the worst build quality I've ever seen so far.

And I cannot agree with you regarding the build quality of LCD. For me it seems they are build very solid. Not as solid as a T1 but much better than others.

Schiit Audio's stuff is very well built. I have never see anyone complaining about them.

But Schiit Audio makes amplifier, and so it will be different than headphones, which has to withstand tear and use to a higher degree.

Nah, no hard feelings. I am actually not US citizen for now, so I am neutral.

To the OP...how did you get in touch with Audeze? I just received my LCD-2s from FedEx that I bought from ALO Audio and they have a crack on one side right out of the box. I'm going to call ALO but if they don't have another pair or don't have another pair without cracks, I guess I'll have to get in touch with Audeze.

Wow!  Seems like a fairly pervasive problem.  Not expected at this price point.

I now have a pair without cracks and I know much has been made about the drying process here. While I can see how that might contribute to the problem, it seems to me that the cracking is more the result of the design causes the wood to be too thin where the mini-XLR connector is. It also might be because of the inherent grain in the Caribbean "Rosewood" (which I'm told is not Rosewood at all). The wood looks like it has been treated very minimally and perhaps a heavier finish would help alleviate, or at least lessen, the problem.

I just got my LCD-2 on Monday. By Wednesday night I had cracked, submitted a ticket Thursday and no response yet...

First thing I noticed was that they stunk! I could smell the varnish coming off the wood, I couldn't wear them for more than 15 minutes at a time. Also, fingerprints in the varnish around the base, like they were handled while still wet.

They look and sound great, but to have $1000 crack within 24 hours of delivery sucks, the varnish issue is mildly annoying.

I still love the sound, so I plan on keeping them. I wonder about longevity past the 5 year waranty...

Warranty is 3 years, but yeah lots of problems in camp Audeze these days.
