Honestly I'd say they have the worst customer service ever. If I get the set back and it cracks within a few days like the priors did I think I'll be done with Audeze.

I don't get the feel they care about the problem. The response to me was "Oh its a wood-batch problem". It's been over a month and I've had the headphones in hand for less than 5 days

That seems really strange. My experience was essentially that they apologized profusely, saying that it is natural for that to happen sometimes with wooden items should a grain happen to form near the connector, but that they would be happy to get me a replacement pair. I got an RMA number the same day, and received them back earlier than the predicted date.
It seems weird that it would be so hit-or-miss. I guess maybe they're bogged down what with the design update they're working on? I'm not really sure, the only part I can be certain of is that I personally had a positive experience.

That is a little odd. With me the customer service was ok, not so bad. Just needed to relax a little bit and put feelings aside and wait. But probably that re-designing is taking a huge load of work and it is slowing everything down?

What a drag.  It probably happened in shipping as the temperature changed.  There is an obvious weak spot there caused by stress as well as the grain of the wood.  This is one reason I shy away from wood.  I love it, but it just has a high upkeep and once it cracks it is much harder to replace at low cost.

Similar issues happened with HiFiMan products.  They addressed it.  Hopefully Audeze will do the same, but not all companies share high quality standards especially when more engineering is involved.

The left side of my LCD-2 finally cracked after 6 months, can I prevent further damage using superglue, or will it further dame the wood?

I used this on my crack when someone at a recent meet were less than gentle with my pair!
http://www.homedepot.ca/product/weldbond-adhesive-60ml/968771

I simply squeezed a small amount in the crack and then uses electrical insulation tape to draw the wood together and left it over night. Next morning it was solid so used on of those three in one nail files to sand the crack down a little and then treated it with the supplied wood oil and you would not know the crack is there now! i also needed to apply a drop or two where the metal socket for the HP cable is as it was a little loose as the wood is ever so slightly wider, left that overnight and two months later no issues.

I could have sent it back under warranty but did not think it worth it for the time i would not have them to listen to! Use the Weldbond as the glued section is actually stronger than the wood it is attached to, also it has a small amount of flex to allow for the woods natural movement with hot and cold air!

ph34r.gif Wow, now I'm scared mine's going to crack one day. Oh well, life is life. I'll probably sent it in and get those new connectors if I can't do what ianmedium did.

Thanks for the advice, the crack is really deep yet, but Audez'e should do something about the way their own wood source/treatment, my pair has was waxed one every 3 weeks and never suffered from any kind of shock, and yet it cracked.

That was exactly what the crack on mine looked like only on the outside. Honestly, unless you want to bother with sending them in the weld bond works wonders. I understand though if you wanted to send them in as they are under warranty. Looking at your avatar I am guessing like me your not in the States which is more of a pain and expense. If i lived in the States I would have returned mine and had them replace the wood. Thing is though being a natural product I would hate it if the replacement wood did not look like the ones I have as I really like the colour and grain!

Oh yes, I tend to wax mine once a month as well but I know what caused mine as I know the person who did it and they are completely cack handed in handling things.. Never again!

Well, the only thing I can say is that I hope Audez'e solved this problem with their new LCD-2s.

They are going with the connectors from the LCD-3s.

I actually find the LCD-3 connectors quite ridiculous looking, but if that solves the issue of the LCD-2's wood cracking, I'm all for it.

But the question really is, are they going to be angled connectors as well? I hope so! That's a major problem with the LCD-2, I think everyone would agree. It's fine when you look straight, but turning your head is a problem.

It's wood sorry but its inherently going to change its geometry, that is reality! Anyway if such thing happens is only because of the design and lack of long term customer feedback from people living in dryer or hotter horizons.

Anyway making precise gear out of wood for what need to be rock solid geometry seems like a failure since the beginning imho.

Music players (like violonist or acoustic guitarist with fancy instrument made of solid real wood) knows from the start to take care of their wooden instrument.

They put great attention into placing theirs instruement in big hardcase, avoiding exposing them to extreme temperature delta and such or sun exposure.

Same attention needs to be made with this headphone it seems. But I'm sure every other wooden headphones like grado or denon will crack under some stress over time or over a dry winter. Sorry to be a bummer though but wood is breathing as you and me and is most likely to live its life even dry dead.

So I talked to their support rep on the phone about a week ago (finally). Apparently they recently moved and were getting things settled.

Later that day she emailed me: "Due to the fact that the design has slightly changed with the rings, it may take up to 10 more days to receive the new modified rings. We have actually modified them to have angled connectors like the LCD-3's. This will fix any future wood cracking issues. As soon as we can repair the unit we will send it to you with the tracking information."

So apparently the new LCD-2 will have the same connectors as the LCD-3. Which is a nicer feature. Mine arrived this morning, I'll post some photos tonight when I get home to check them out. *fingers crossed*
