Help: need to clean smoke smell from B&W P5s I bought used

I thought I was doing a nice thing buying my wife a used set of P-5s off Amazon. Turns out when they arrived that they emit a powerful cigarette smoke smell imbued by the previous owner.  I paid too much for them to justify new ear covers.  Any suggestions on the best way to clean them to remove the smell or it is hopeless so I should ask for a refund?

I would ask for a heavy discount... new covers are only about 20$
Being leather it might be hard to get rid of the smell. The only thing I would recommend is trying to spray them with air fresheners and hope the smell goes away? Though keep in mind they're leather and wet air fresheners might damage them.

Leather cleaners do well on the p5s.
