There's an auction closing later today on ebay for six 5751 tubes (5751's are a direct substitute for a 12AX7.) It includes two triple-mica grey plate GE's, three triple-mica black plate GE's, and one Raytheon black plate 5751. The auction number is 1253786041.
I use all of these tube types in my MG Head, and I prefer all of them to even the "sacred" Telefunken. The only reason I'm not keeping quiet and bidding away on this package is because I aready have five of each of these types of tubes in my tube stash. This would be a great way to check out the best of the 5751 sound on the cheap -- especially if a couple MG Headers split it. I've never dealt with this seller. You know how it is buying tubes on Ebay -- every once in a while you get a weak tube. But I've bought an awful lot of tubes on Ebay with good luck, like maybe a hundred, and only one's been bad. The only trick is not to pay too much. (I think I paid $3 for the bad one.)
