I'm headed to Beijing this June and was wondering if any fellow Head-Fiers who may live there can suggest some audio shops I could visit while there or some gear manufacturers who might offer factory tours.

Sorry can't suggest anything for you but I spent some time there in 2004 and it was amazing.

Its an amazing city with great food, great sites and lovely people.

Thank you for the wonderful comments and thoughts about my homeland Thing Fish! L3000.gif I really appreciate this. Now in 2012, my country has evolved never the less into a up-comming world super power with better everything and conditions of living. I was supposed to go on a trip this year but it has been cancelled. Lack of interest in my school caused this.

Sorry I can't help you either with audio shops, but here are 3 quick tips : )

1) try the Peking duck, it originated in Bejing

2) When you get to the Hotel grab a couple business cards from the front desk, these have the hotel address on them in Chinese, now your free to leave in what ever direction you choose from the hotel and wander aimlessly around enjoying the sights and when you want to go back, grab a cab (every second car is a cab, and they're cheap) and show them the card and they'll take you back to the hotel.

3)If your considering shipping things back let me provide 2 examples from person experience:

A-   Shipped approx 65 lbs from China for $150- Lied about contents put books, old shoes, extra sweater, etc, was not robbed

B-   Shipped approx 20 lbs From Australia insured for $178 had to list contents for insurance, arrived minus about $400 dollars worth of high end silk sheets, duvets, etc post office gave me the run around about insurance, never received a dime.

Personally, I will never ship an item insured to myself again, as I feel this only increases my chance of being robbed, and costs significantly more to ship. Take from this what you will.

Oh, and try the steamed meat buns, the beef ones are a lot better then the pork.
