If it was a little more dressed up than a cheap cardboard box with HE-6 written in marker on the side I'd of probably questioned myself before opening it, as I've said I thought they sent me the wrong thing as I expected an elegant box but was given a plastic pouch in cheap cardboard, I'm not going to tip-toe around every purchase I ever make in worry that I may cost the company money as they may have to re-sell it as an openbox.

The correct answer to this question is clearly that you should have kept quiet if you wanted to keep the headphones. No one would be the wiser and no one would have thought the worse of you. The moment you go public about the matter, you have an obligation to exchange the product. Any extras that Hifiman decides to throw in is up to them, but once it is public, this is the only decent course of action. I am not going to disdain you for thinking about keeping the headphones, because I know human nature and it would cross the minds of 99% of us. However, it is not right to be lording it over the heads of Hifiman in a public forum that they most likely read regularly, nor is it right to put them immediately for sale as if taunting Hifiman to take action. It was an honest mistake, and I agree that they would be correct in attempting to compensate you for the mistake. They may not be so willing anymore.

Ok, i just finally got to watch the video. I probably would have opened them myself. The packaging looks shoddy and I would have at least wanted to see if it were a brick or something like that. So I will retract my statement about the open box fee since there doesn't appear to be a box anyway.

You give bad taste to Hifiman brand... If I would have company I nwould pay you money not to buy my products lol

There seems to be something strange here when you say that the box says HE-6 on it yet you opened it without knowing they were not the headphones you ordered. Then proceeded to open the headphones up. On top of that you keep exclaiming (with !!!! everywhere) that you will gladly send them back even though you excitedly talk about the prospect of him telling you to hold on to that $1000 error he just sent.

I have no idea if things happened as you said or not, but do not list them for sale, do not talk to anyone about selling them, and do not use/open the headphones until you hear back. That does not mean wait a "day or so" and then just fire them away to someone for big $$$.

I definitely agree, but I couldn't just take headphones like that.

In retrospect the sale thread probably wasn't the best idea only due to the sparks it caused but I'd still do it again having known, I still need to know what I can get for them if I'm allowed to keep them, only time will tell.

Hah, you won't be allowed to keep em...

Damn right I'm going to listen to probably the best headphones my head will ever touch, error or not, I see a lot of people sitting on a morale high horse which is silly as they'd probably listen to them too (atleast the ones who don't already have swanky setups!), it's a shame they didn't send me 500s as then I may have been able to actually listen to them.

I would have opened the box, to make sure, and I'd be tempted to listen to them since I've not sampled the HE-6s before. However, I'd just box them back up and stow them away in a drawer until I heard back from Fang. I'd have to keep them out of sight or I'd start screaming, "STOP TEMPTING ME, THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!". biggrin.gif

I was referring to this. Honestly I would have listened to them too at the point that I already had them out of the box.

However you changed the pads and asked people if you should toy with the inside of $1500 headphones that you do not really own. That to me is mind boggling decision making.

They were quite badly packaged, just a cardboard box with HE-6 on the side and once I saw the pouch and not the box I thought I was sent a worse product to the HE-300 considering the pouch is much less elegant than a box.

Wow - just read the entire thread.

@ eltocliousus

First up - what you are doing is morally / ethically wrong & I would question the legality as well. The initial posts are harmeless - but as soon as you started considering selling these / keeping them - you crossed the line.

My advice:

[1] Cancel the FS thread and get a mod to delete it.

[2] Talk to a mod about closing and locking this thread - you've already compromised yourself

[3] Don't converse any more on here about this situation until you've heard from Head-Direct. You need to give Fang a chance to reply. I am sure that if you actually give them some time, they will respond and fix their error. Good companies do that.

FInally - learn a lesson from this - and next time think before you act like you just did.

FTR - if it was me - yes I would have opened the box to check, and had a listen (human nature).  Next I would have contacted Fang and waited patiently for their reply.  Third I wouldn't have posted - except maybe after things had been resolved, to compliment Head-Direct on their stellar service - assuming that they will fix the issue promptly, and possibly give you something extra for your time.  Personally I think you lost the chance of any extras as this thread unravelled.

From the packaging they look to be a return or a defective pair that was accidently shipped out to you. Does anyone have a set and can confirm the packinging looks like that when recieved. I wouldnt be happy if I ordered them and thats how they showed up.

Haha, I understand, fortunately the temptation isn't there as I have nothing to run these off at all, they're sat on my bed in the flimsy box they came in, I just realized that they must have been open box as the cloth pouch the cord came in was a little.. tattered to say the least, I wouldn't expect such a high-end headphone to come packaged like that, the headphones themselves look spotless though.

I'll admit that was stupid of me, just after posting I realized that I should probably put them away and not touch them again until something reveals itself which I promptly did.

browsed through the threads, I have to concludes that lots of head-fiers are utopians.

Please remind one thing in mind before judging the OP: he ordered a good A and received a good B, shouldn't hifiman be sorry enough first of all by sending the wrong item?

What i think OP did wrong is imposing a duality by saying he will resolve this with Fang and then posted for sale here. But even though, it is still hifiman's fault for not sending the right item. In my understanding, a company cannot justify their fufillment mistake by claiming they sent a superior product to what's been ordred
