Kinda annoying if you're on that receiving end.
It's like if some watch nut comes to you and calls you out for wearing a Guess or CK watch, and tells you all about how a Citizen is so much better and your watch is crap if you don't get a brand that's "approved" by the watch community.

If the watch nut can give me good reasons why my CK watch sucks then why wouldn't I listen to him? It would be stupid to not educate yourself when you have the opportunity to do so. Maybe I could learn a thing or two.

And why are you assuming that people are just going to go around bothering random people like your watch nut example? Most of the time you are trying to convince your friends / relatives so they don't waste their money on overpriced rip off headphones.

If someone asks your opinion about Beats then by all means its ok to explain IMO.

But marching on to someone who got Beats and argues head to head with them is total madness .

If the said person wanted good sq he/she would have researched for and/or have considered other potential models.

If they consider beats mainly 'cause their friend/neighbour has them or "will look good on my head" then let them be! It's their money & choice!

Because it gets annoying real quick. Imagine if everybody was like the OP who wants to "educate others" on their hobby:

You bought nikes - wow, you didn't buy a pair of ecco or sketchers but instead bought these overpriced rip off shoes?
You bought a flashlight - you noob! Why didn't you spend the money on surefires? (not kidding. Go to candlepower forums)
You bought an upgraded wheel package from your car dealer - Why didn't you go aftermarket and get BBS rims for the same price?
You bought a table from ikea - LOL, ikea? Guess you like poor quality things...

All your friends/family/coworkers would be on your case for every single purchase you make. At that point, I'm sure you'd be sick of listening to every opinion out there.

If someone ASKS for your advice, then sure, tell them about what headphones they should get. But going on a mission and "making a guide on how to educate the rest of the world" as the OP puts it? No. That just makes you look like a elitist.

But everytime somerhing like this happens you can take something from it and change in the future.
In response to the shoes: maybe they're more comfortable to some people? I prefer addidas shoes because they seem to fit great. I'll pay the little bit extra for the brand name because I've never had problems with my addidas shoes.
In response to the flashlights: great, now I know what flashlights to go for in the future if I need something high quality. Though considering I only use flashlights during blackouts the type of flashlight doesn't even matter to me.
For the wheels: there's some simplicity in buying wheels from the dealer and maybe some people haven't been INTRODUCED to aftermarket rims.
Etc.

It's useful to know some basic information about the various Beats and what headphones are better than them, but the headphone evangelist role can be nauseating.  For every item you purchase, there's some group of avid connoisseurs of that item.  To have them around is useful whenever you're looking for alternatives, but as it is we're exposed to thousands of advertisements a day, so if you're not interested in switching, they're just adding to the noise.

If you search 'Beats By Dre Review' on google all the reviews are positive. Most people are not going to search past the first page, and after reading a few reviews they decide to pick up a pair. Even the most resourceful consumer will have a hard time finding negative reviews of the Beats. The only reason I stumbled upon head-fi was because I was searching for info about HD555's.

That's just how it goes.  Heck, if you Google "headphones" you come up with Beats, Skullcandy and Bose.  At least Headroom and this site show up on the first page, though below the fold.

Not to mention those are the 3 main brands sold by most major retailers (more specifically bestbuy) so people who do limited research probably don't even know about headphones other than beats, bose, skullcandy and maybe sony/sennheiser

your $500 amd notebook will not be even close to a $3000 macbook in any way

edit: actually, the amd laptop might be a better paperweight or handwarmer..

sorry guys , didnt mean to take it off topic, they are pretty much similar hardware now, just the difference of locked software and apples tend to be prettier.

btw: just met my stepsister for the first time last summer. Before I met her though , i heard she wanted some Beats headphones . I wasn't going to be the hater and tell her they aren't good, she really wanted to have them and got them before I actually met her. The family really liked them, I couldn't tell them that but I let them listen to my cheaper stuff and they agreed mine sounds good too. lol

If they are happy and satisfied, that is all that matters.

I don't see it the same way. You might find it annoying, but all my friends and relatives consider me as the "go-to" guy for advice on what to buy, whether it's headphones, gadgets, or even cars.

Every time they get stuck they give me a call and ask for advice. Do you know why? Because I've educated them in the past and they spread the word on how happy they were for listening to my advice.

And for your information, I do enjoy my surefire 6P very much. Thank you :P.

He was exaggerating.

But my $1700 laptop (bought 6 months ago) compared to a $2500 macbook (today) has 750gb more memory, Two 7400rpm hard drives in Raid 0 configuration compared to a pathetic single 5400 rpm on the mac, 12gb more RAM, 1gb more GPU power, and more features than a macbook can dream of.

The only thing the macbook wins in is looks.... But if Looks mattered.. We would all be wearing beats headphones. (They don't even look that good, but you get the point.)

The Mac also wins in that it can run OS X, which in many ways is superior to Win7. As for HDs, now I can't see running a notebook without a SSD. My MBP 15"er has been an amazing machine since I went to an Intel 160GB drive. It's just obnoxiously quick.
