Headphones comparable-ish to DT770 Pro's

Hello all,

I am new here (however I lurked when I was choosing my first pair of cans)

I am posting here for a friend of mine who likes my Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro's, and is looking for a pair of cans for himself as he loves the clarity and the experience of having a nice pair of cans.

- Price range is ~£100 (a few cheaper options aswell would be cool)

- He does not produce music, so they don't have to be 'monitoring headphones', he will just be listening to a wide variety of music on them.

- Comfort is a big factor, as well as size/portability (the beyer's are too big, but most other full size ones should be fine)

- He would like something possibly a little bass-ier than my DT770's :)

- Preferrably around-ear

Thanks in advance,

Dave

This is a pretty tricky request.  The Sony XB-500 ticks most of the boxes, but it has less clarity than the DT-770, and is not really a particularly versatile headphone.  The Panasonic RP-HTF600 is not a bad consideration, although it won't be quite as clear, and will have somewhat less bass (mostly less sub-bass).  If comfort is really important, most of the standard fare like the HFI-580, Pro 700 Mk2, SRH-750DJ, K-518DJ, HD-25-1 II, M50, etc. tend to have too mixed of reviews.  The Denon D2000 is probably going to really be the only rival in comfort, but it's out of your price range and doesn't really meet the other criteria either.  Some of the better options to look into might be the V-Moda LP2, Phiaton MS400, and M-Audio Q40.

Found the XB700 somewhat similar generally sound signature wise, with more bass.

The main issue with those is their size.

Which model DT770s are you using? 80-ohm, 250-Ohm, 600-Ohm?

There are bassier headphones then the DT770, but you lose the sound quality.

What source(s) is you friend going to be plugging the headphones into?

The Superlux HD660 seems to be a low cost knock off of the DT770s.
