Custom IEM driver degradation

Thread Starter

Hello,

I had previously had a pair of TF10's reshelled into customs. They've served me for about a year before upgraditis kicked in (and a switch to a more mobile lifestyle), and I decided to send them to Unique Melody for the 6 driver reshell upgrade. So far I have nothing but good things to say about Unique Melody and their customer service. They've been prompt, friendly, and helpful.

Interestingly, yesterday i received an email that said the low frequency drivers in my right side IEM measured a 7 db difference which was said to indicate driver degradation. When I asked what was the likely cause, I was told that moisture inside the case was the typical culprit, but normally customs should provide an adequate seal.

I mostly use my IEMs while traveling, and relatively frequently make the 14 hour trip from the US to Asia. In these cases I tend to wear my customs for the entire trip. I know this is quite a prolonged period of time.

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced these kind of "issues", and is there anything special I should be doing in my IEM maintenance to try to alleviate this problem.

Thanks!

I leave moisture absorbing packets in the carrying case of the iem.

That's actually a solid and simple idea. Thanks! I'm assuming just any generic silica-gel thing?

I just got my first set of IEM's and I too am putting Silica pack in the carrying cases.  It may be the only time I'm good with my wife being a bit of a shoe freak, since that's a good source of the gel packssmile.gif

Yup. The silica-gel packets work well enough.
