Great. Which dac is better for u ?

Base with Gungnir is slightly more forward and bloomy.  I don't think the need the 900s need that boost, they tend to bring it along themselves so the decision would go the Mytek.

Actually my preferred DAC for the TH900s these days is my Questyle CAS192, plain winner over either of these.

Has anyone heard the Fostex TH 600 / 900 on the Valhalla 2 ?

Anybody know how the Oppo PM-1 compare to the TH900, I've been reading a few reviews on the PM-1 and you would think they are talking about TH900, which makes me very curious

Really? I am surprised because I have had the TH900 for more than a year now and I have heard the PM1 and PM2 and I would not at all put them in the same class as the TH900. Statement of hope rather than statement of fact, perhaps.

I have the PM1 and TH900 and usually reach for the Fostex 80% of the time. The PM1 has fantastic mids and is very enjoyable but the TH900 is still the king.

Using them with the Rag. Excellent tone, once I find the proper pad position (it's not the amp, it's the phones).

Highs are silky smooth and the bass never overpowering. Very good stuff.

What would be a better match for the TH-900, the NFB-27 or the Reference 10.32? They are both DAC+amp combos.

From what I understand, the amp portions on both are similar and the main difference is the DAC portions (NFB-27 containing Sabre ES9018 chip and Reference 10.32 containing PCM1704UK chips). NFB-27 is priced at $1530 while the Ref 10.32 is priced at $1850.

Reference 10.32, definitely.

Any recommendation for alternate pads?

I find the sound very dependent on the pad position (stock pads) and they are not that comfortable when lying in bed. I need to press the front and loosen the back seal to get the tone I like. It works when lying in bed because the pillow helps holding them in that position, but it's not really a long term solution.

I tried Alpha pads and Lawton angles in addition to the stock.  Preferred stock but Lawton was a close second.

How would you describe the changes?

If I can get a consistent sound with plushier pads like the Alpha or Lawton, that would be a plus.

I have them both, not very similar at all IMO.  TH900 has extended top and bottom v. the OPPO, OPPO is much fuller in the middle.  Both good, just different sound.

Theirs sq are totally different. TH900 has a very deep and solid bass slam, with smooth but extended treble. One thing I don't like is the midrange suck-out, with the low mids too lacking for my liking.
The PM-1 is a warmer sounding can with mids bump and rolled-off treble, so to me they are totally different aounding

the th900's highs aren't the smoothest going around imo. i hear a sharpness which used to bother me. guess i got used to it.

Agree that they aren't the smoothest, but I'm already used to HD800 high with the 6kHz spike 😁
