I own both...Yes the TH 900 is a feather compared to the XC....However I have worn the XCs for more than 3 hours at a time without any pain whatsoever. However, I understand YMMV and I also understand its a choice between 2 closed HPs.

Not unfair at all if you're looking at it from a price perspective. The Sennheiser HD600/650 gets compared to Hifiman HE400 all the time.

Fair enough but I am not willing to get into the whole discussion about what a particular sound is worth...mere nuances to some are a big deal for others hence worth more etc etc

Also find the protein pads do not create too much heat even with a long session

good news for you though, ortho tech is getting lighter. Hifiman is developing a new flagship pair of headphones that will be half the weight of the previous generation... think about around 325g. that's even lighter than the TH900.

Where did you read that?

IMO, a slightly unfair comparison given the differing technologies.

If Hifiman is able to achieve that (make them half as heavy), make the headphone nice to look at (i.e., Fang is not much of an aesthetics kind of guy...his products are utilitarian-looking, clunky, and lacking in finesse/elegance), and make it easier to drive than the HE-6 (more along the lines of the HE-500), then we will have a winner!  This is a high order for Fang to achieve, but let's hope he has learned from experience.

Oh, yes...by the way, where did you read that?  It does sound rather "un-Fang" like to be practical like that, hehe!

Where's the proof / source of this information?

from google translate, search for '350 grams' to skip to the HP part.

mmm... I dunno about smart. seems just lazy to me. it took me about 10 seconds to google this information out. while asking someone to do it for you, you have to wait for them to respond & you don't know how accurate the info is. i totally could have lied & just made up those numbers/rumors. I dunno how you can survive in today's world if you can't google efficiently.

it's actually really amazing. back in the day, if you wanted information, you needed to find experts (either talk to them or read their books). nowadays, the information is freely available on the web. you just need to be able to find it!

In chinese, 平板 is apparently also the word for planar magnetic as well. 平板 means tablet lol. All that information is in the head-fi thread and you can clearly see the original text. hahah

Anyone here in Hong Kong know where I can go to try both the TH900 and the TH600?

I think I got the green light to go for the TH900 but would like to try the 600 so that I can add a home amp to go with it. I have been eying the Audio-GD 11.32 since I only have portable dac/amp now, E17 and E18.

The service at Let's Go in Wan Chai is very good but they only carry the 900.

Which place offers the best price on either pair?

Sent off my TH900 just a couple days ago. Listening to it for the last time, it was the hardest ones to ship off so far out of all the headphones I've owned.
