Can't imagine the cost of replacing those leather cups though. No interest in the sound though despite it being a headphone just here to admire the view.

The fit and finish alone is probably accountable for half of the asking price :-)

It's not real leather.  That material is made from egg protein.

Has anyone replaced their pads yet, or know how to get the original egg protein pads from Fostex?

Might be blatantly obvious but... have you tried contacting their support?

Not yet, I'm still debating about getting these, and was wondering whether or not anyone had any experience with replacing the pads with the original pads.

The pads are very nice. They don't really break down (I've had my pair for a little over 8 months now). You might call them durable, but they are also comfortable too, so don't mistake them for being artificial. I've personally found the stock pads to also have the best sonics, and I've swapped out quite a few pads. I've still yet to try the Lawton pads though, so my opinion might change.

Guys I am going to let MoonAudio shorten the original cable from 3m to 1.5m, also replace the original connector to a Furutech CF763 carbon plug. Any suggestion on this mod? :)

I love the sound from its original cable and that's why i don't go for re-terminate the whole cable, just shorten it and change the plug. But i'm not sure how the sound would change tho...

Honestly i would expect zero difference in sound. If it were me, I would terminate it to 4-pin XLR, then use the scrap piece of cable to make a 4-pin XLR to TRS pigtail adapter. If you just want to shorten it, then send me the scrap piece of wire and I'll put it to good use :)

wow u just said exactly what i thought! I wish someone could use the scraped cable to make something else. What kinds of cable would you gonna make with the 1.5m cable?

And same here i hope they would have no difference in sound as i love its original sound signature so much! :)

I think that it has been said that stats have clean bass that isn't really punchy or rather more "heard" than "felt" and that dynamics have more of a visceral and punchy bass, so I was wondering if people considered the TH900 to have more of dynamic or stat-like bass since it seems to measure quite well?

edit: err, rather than stats, it might have been referring to planar/ortho headphones. Can't remember exactly.

edit2: I guess I can "feel" plenty from my headphones, so silly question....

Hmm, so many uses  I could make a portable friendly cable for my HD-800, a XLR-TRS pigtail adapter, some nice LODs, or strip and use it for signal wire in an amp :)

What if you ever want to do TV viewing or lay on your bed. Suddenly the cable is too short.
