Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread - Page 297

I've looked on the Lawton Audio website and there are some nice looking wooden cups for the TH-900, but I won't be ready to get any of those headphones for sometime.

Like I said, I've decided I'm eventually getting the TH-900's partly because they're closed, whereas the HD-800's aren't.

However, if the HD-800's looked anything like the discontinued HE-90, then that would tempt me into getting a pair.

I heard it last year at an head-fi meeting and was very impressed with it, although I don't know what amp was being used. The amp I'd be using it with is the GS-Xmk2, so I'd be expecting them to sound very good with that amp. Apart from sounding very good, one of the other reasons why I'll eventually be going for the TH-900, is because I've already got the SR-009's and HD-600's which are both open headphones, and as we know the TH-900 is closed.

Does anyone know if the TH-900 is only available with the red coloured cups, or can they be got in black ?

Hey if your referring to the meet last September the guys from Item Audio had the TH900s running through both the Burson Soloist and the Redwine Corvina (Battery) if i remember correctly. I rather like the pairing with the Corvina, it might have to be my first tube amp.

Yes it was at the Cambridgeshire Head-fi meeting which was held in the middle of last September.

Thank you for mentioning the two amps that were being used because the TH-900 did sound very good.

That being said, and this is probably a silly question, but does anyone know how the GS-Xmk2 compares to those two amps.

Just kidding. But now that you mention it, a black or really dark reddish-black urushi would get my attention.

I had a Corvina (balanced) that I just traded in* on a new RWA Bellina HPA. I loved the Corvina; its successor in the RWA lineup is the Cassabria. I guess technically the RWAs are hybrids and not tube amps per se; I do like what the tube stage gives you. Plus the batteries are great for me.

*Vinnie's trade-in program is outstanding, as is his customer service-- he personally returns emails and phone calls. I returned my Corvina for a full $1,500.00 credit towards the Bellina, no muss no fuss.

I'm pretty much in total agreement with Darryl here too FWIW.

After reading reviews and finally pull the plug to order myself a pair of TH900.

I'm wondering is it good enough if i were to build a laptop setup or should i go for cd transport setup ? Mind to guide me please seniors.

If i were to build laptop setup which amp and dac i should go for step by step ? I saw wooaudio has this new WA7 dac/amp that looks so cool, do they match th900 ?

Well, if you're going to build a dedicated computer just for music.  I would look into building a C.A.P.S.  This is only if you're looking into building one.

Bro i think this is too complicated for me as a newbie into this line of audio....

Currently i think its best to find a matching amp and dac first. As for the time being ill feed them from my laptop or studio-v / headstage arrow.

I'm gonna save some money to purchase each equipment required step by step :)
