^ This is definitely something to take note of. If you can find a used GS-X MK1, then I would snatch it up, although I haven't seen one on the FS forums once. I believe they are tough to come by, because the original owners are very happy with it.

You might want to wait and see if the Bakoon Products HPA-21 fits your tastes.  Read about it on 6Moons:  http://6moons.com/audioreviews/bakoon3/1.html

I was thinking about getting a tube amp to see what is it really like when I listen to music. Yes I had the ZDSE and DNA Stratus in mind, but the Zen Taboo is really classical and retro. It made me curious since it does have a lifetime warranty (90 days for tubes) and reminds me of old antique radios.

It's a shame though, but there are plenty of new headphone amps and DACs being released this year. Seems that some of them are delayed like the Cavalli Liquid Fire MKII.

EDIT: Odd, I can't seem to buy the Matrix X-Sabre since it doesn't list Canada, USA, or Mexico as shipping options. Darn. Time to look for another DAC.

Burson Soloist

Bryston BHA-1

Used HeadAmp GS-X

Used Cavalli Liquid Fire

There maybe others that I'm forgetting, but these are said to be very good with both the TH-900 and HD 800. I've heard all of them but the BHA-1, and I concur with the previous statements.

You can add the Grace m903 to that list. Several people in "Best Amp for Fostex/Denon" thread have recommended it. It's on the TOTL list as well. I haven't used it with the Fostex yet, but it's been working a treat with my Signature DJ's which have a similar signature.

Can't find anyone selling the GS-X MKI. Even then, the owner wouldn't part with it unless the person wants a lot of money for it.

Isn't that the Korean version and isn't it battery-powered? I heard it was pretty good to use with the TH-900.

There is a GS-1 on sale now. It would be fantastic with the TH-900s and a steal at that price!

I'd say you can listen 70-75dB(C) (measured with radioshack) without bothering anyone much in a quiet room. It's pretty subjective, but they don't leak that much IMO..

Just look at some measurements. My Aurvanas are actually pretty comparable. You can still hear some guitar riffs etc pretty far since attenuation starts only after 1khz (compared to really closed ones like DT770 @ 200hz..)

Thanks, that gives me some reference.  There does seem to be some disparity in leakage perceptions in this thread, which I suppose is natural.

Yeah, not my style anyway.

You might be thinking of the BHSE.  The GS-X has a 3-month wait (which is still long, but I'll happily use my LF in the meanwhile).

You have to go to their US site, http://matrix-digi-usa.com/

NO buddy.  I know exactly what I'm talking about.  Ask around.

Ugh, I feel so stupid. tongue_smile.gif At least there is free shipping, even though it is from China originally. It is a nice DAC though and I like its features.

I asked Justin. He said:

The lead time on the next batch of the GS-X mk2 is 2-3 months.

It is nice. Impressed me quite a lot and I can't wait to get it back from Purrin.

Hmm, that's odd.  I'm pretty sure Justin said 2-3 months when I placed the order.  He told you differently when you placed the order?

Both of you must not know about the Headamp wait times.   This is my second amp from him.  3 months is a great time for a headamp amp.  It won't disappoint you when it arrives.
