Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread - Page 24

Do the 900's perform well at lowish volume or need more to come to life? Thanks

Hello Muppetface -

How do the Fostex compare to the Audeze LCD-2 or LCD-3?

Did you get yours via PriceJapan? And if so, would you recommend dealing with PJ?

Thanks.

Re: low volume listening

Sounds good to me with the volume turned down. I try not to listen to music loudly as a general rule these days, and while something like the Grado PS1000 is even better with low volume levels (due to the treble and bass tilt), the TH900 is still very lively IMO.

Re: LCD-2 and LCD-3

To my ears the TH900 definitely surpasses the LCD-2 rev. 1 in most areas save for richness and warmth, and that's due to the rev. 1 being pretty heavily colored. The TH900 sounds much clearer and more accurate to me. Compared to the LCD-3 (after I sent my pair in to Audez'e to be updated) the comparison is more even. The TH900 sounds more alive to me however, more engaging. Imagining on the TH900 strikes me as better. Both are very accurate and somewhat restrained (no "hi-fi tricks" here like overly bright "sparkly" treble), but the LCD-3 is more relaxed. Comfort-wise the TH900 wins hands down for me over both.

Re: PriceJapan

Yes, this is where I got my TH900. Also my W3000ANV, SR-009, and many IEMs. Kaneda is extremely reliable in my experience and will answer e-mails quickly, doing all he can to insure you're taken care of. One of the better import companies to my mind.

Muppet, can you touch on sound staging qualities in this new fostex vs some other sets you have experience with.  Also, can I get your home address so I can come steal it from you?  Just tossing it out there, this set is pretty much everything Ive ever wanted and then some ( excluding the ridiculous price )

I went to the Moon Audio site and it said the TH900 were "in stock". I was also able to use their 10% off coupon, so it was $1799 plus shipping. Hopefully, the "in stock" was not a misprint...

Plus I'm curious: if you buy the Fostex TH900 from someone like TTVJ or Moon Audio (or someone in Europe), would it not have to go to Fostex Japan for warranty repair work anyway? You'd send it to the dealer, who would then send it to Fostex Japan. Sort of like with Stax...

Thar's a pretty good price!

Where does one get that coupon?

You're doing great! ;)

Can I ask what happened to your profile's headphone list? Sorry if I'm like the Xth person to ask you that, and not that I dislike your poetry either lol.

Glasses are OK, as long as you don't need hearing aids, you're good to go! biggrin.gif

Don't worry, I can't see/find it either, lol.

I would have bought a TH900 today without the chance of saving 200 dollars.

It's the ad on top of the page.  :)

$200 is quite a nice discount.

I got my Fostex HP-P1 from Drew, I wonder if the discount was there already then as well.

A really fine amp I must say, I love the full-bodied sound.

Anybody here getting the HP-A8 by the way?
