What you're seeing there with the last picture is a black shiny paint or something like that.. it's a different color to the silver 'right' side

I may be detail blind but I have no idea what you're trying to show with these pictures. Care to elaborate by editing them with Paint and showing the exact area? They all look exactly the same to me.

sliver ring on BOTH SIDES

Only the right ear cup is clearly silver (left side of image). The left ear cup is black (right side of image).

It's hard to say. Perhaps the flash from the camera only hit the left side.
If you think your left and right are mixed up, try play audio through only the left or right cup to confirm.

They're looking at the area where there's a gap where the urushi cups connect. If you looks closely at the left and right sides they have a different texture. According to the manual the right side should be silver

The silver ring is supposed to be on the right can. Black ring on the left can. All TH900 are designed that way.
But I can understand your confusion.

If you look at these two pictures, it seems as if the silver ring is on the left can. However, it is merely an illusion created by reflected lights and camera angle. The black ring on the left can has a shiny surface, which can reflect light and may seem silver. If you don't believe me, look at the left can of your TH900 and see whether the black ring surface is shiny or not. Look at it under a light source, and you can see that it shines.
If you still have doubts, look at the last picture:
http://www.fostexinternational.com/public/images/highside_gallery/TH900_002.jpg
This picture was posted on the official website for Fostex, so this should be most accurate. Now, you said there are silver ring on both sides. It seems that way at first. However, look closer: while there is no doubt that the right can (left side of the picture) has a clear silver surface, the ring on the left can (right side of the picture) is mostly black with a shiny surface that may look like silver on the top and bottom. That's because light is illuminated from the top and bottom which causes this shiny reflection off the black ring's surface, while the middle part does not get much light. Look at the red cups, and you'll see that the top and bottom parts are illuminated while the middle parts aren't. Now it makes sense, right?
In conclusion, all TH900 have a black ring on the left cup and silver ring on the right cup, including mine, yours, and everyone else's that I know of. So there is nothing wrong with that, no need to worry whether yours was a faulty design. Time to move on. ;)
no worries at all, just wondering about the optical quality for 2k.
Paying 500 bucks, i would not talk about this.....

The fit and finish of the TH900 is superb, as you would expect of a luxury headphone at this price but it's not without problems as some owners have found. However, what you've been obsessing over isn't one of them.

Ah now I see what y'all are talking about. I actually noticed the ring differences the first time I held the TH900 in my hands right out of the box. It was very peculiar to the design but I never gave a 2nd thought to it.

I'll let the TH900's settle in for a few weeks, and then compare them to the LA7000's
I will say, after a quick 5 minute listen between the two, the TH900 is brighter while listening to my Nektar "Journey to the Centre of the Eye" sacd. The LA7000 / TH900 comparison is not universal though , because each pair is tuned differently according to the stated tastes submitted to Mark
Looking forward to this, as I haven't seen a side-by-side comparison yet
Also, what are the specs on your LA7000 (wood, cable, pads, etc.)?

I would get so impatient! But thankfully when I ordered (not from TTVJ), they arrived 1 week after payment. I am really admiring the TH900s and have been comparing them to my headphone arsenal.

To my understanding, Fostex USA's distributor (American Music & Sound,) takes care of PO's in the order they were placed - so if they get 100 phones and have 200 on order from their various dealers, Moon could get theirs without TTVJ getting theirs. But I have a feeling this shipment will take care of all current outstanding orders, so you should get a message from TTVJ soon enough.
