Is TH900 more clamping than Sennheiser HD800 ?

No.

Has anyone been able to compare the Fostex TH900 to the JVC DX1000?

No.  TH900 is like the Denon D7000

Exactly. That's to say, very comfortable!

No. The HD800s are just particularly comfortable to me because they touch the area of the head that seems less sensitive to me with smaller area of contact.

But the TH900s just sound much better to me.

Had a good couple of hours to try the TH900s again at the Tokyo festival. They are better than a remembered them the first. time. I can easily imagine getting the full kit with the HP-A8 and being done with it. The funny thing is, the headphones I had a chance to compare them with were bass-light Sony R10s. Hard to really say much beyond they have a different frequency response as both are excellent out of the A8, though I felt the Sonys edge out on detail.

The Fostex, like the Denon line, aren't as dark as the JVCs.

One thing the JVC will win is bass, its just scream clean tight bass. Its true they are colored and dark sounding. But highs and mids the Denon line wins so Fostex must be a notch up as well.

...

So much love recently for the TH900 that is on my head right now, makes me second-guess my desire to "step-up"

Looking forward to that "showdown" listening session with MorbidToaster. His LL+009 vs my LF+TH900. Should be good fun. Top-flight Stax vs all dynamic can offer. I'm hoping for a revelation, either way.

That's weird. IMO, the TH900s have the cleanest bass out there, from 150Hz all the way down, their THD numbers are incredible (0.2-0.3%). Even the STAX SR-009s can't pull numbers that good, but they are very close.

Hmmm...ok I don't have exactly that setup above but I have the SR-009/727A & TH-900/HP-A8 combinations instead (this is a hint as to who's setup Currawong listened to ;-)). I have to admit that the SR-009/727A combo is extremely good but the TH-900/HP-A8 has its own place.

After hearing the TH900 at the Cambridge UK head-fi meeting I was thinking on getting a pair to use with the GS-X when l receive it, however there are things being done with the spare money l have so l'll have to put those headphones on hold for sometime.

Would be interesting though, TH900 + GS-X + K-01  vs  009 + BHSE + K-01.

I've also the Aristaeus on order which I should receive the same time as the GS-X so it'll also be interesting,  009 + BHSE + K-01  vs  009 + Aristaeus + K-01.

I had (a few) bass light R10s too for a few years. Got the TH900s, and it was goodbye R10s (took the money and ran, all sold).
