Before, I used my NAD T163 pre amp headphone Out but the E-MU 204 out is better because it doesn't have any hiss whereas my T163 has a hiss.
Yeah I am serious.
I am pretty sure if that sound card could cost 2000$, everybody would say: this is amazing.
An headphone amp is still an headphone amp, even if it is inside a sound card... But take it and put it in a huge box with lot of buttons and lights, and it became magically better... Haha.
Umm, no. I wouldn't say that's amazing. The output power and impedance are poor for a headphone like the Fostex, it needs a proper low impedance amp. Even something inexpensive like the O2 would be a big improvement.

Maybe you are right.
All the test I did were not effective to me... But I never tried very high priced heaphones tubes amp...
So that's why I'm gonna try the Leben 300 XS. If the listening is as amazing as everybody say, I will buy it.
The best improvement I never heard thru my R10 is when I listen different versions of the same album and I find the best one.
For instance, The Abbey Road Beatles album in Black Triangle Japan edition from 1983 sounds amazingly better than the last remastered version.
Try that. Here, be sure you will hear the difference. :)

I was actually thinking about something like the Benchmark DAC1. Its amp section is very good with low impedance headphones and it has an excellent DAC. TH900 THD numbers are half that of the Leben, and they're very sensitive. It's quite possible you'll pickup some noise.
I have the Benchmark DAC1 Pre and although it's a great DAC for my Stax SRM-727A, I've been luke warm with its amp section. I did a review on the Ortofon Hd-Q7 recently and with my TH900, I actually preferred the Hd-Q7 amp over the DAC1 Pre headphone out amp. My review can be found here (with the TH900) :-
http://www.head-fi.org/products/ortofon-hd-q7-desktop-headphone-amplifier/reviews/7023
I've not tried the soundcard Modwright01 used so I'm not going to knock it (I wonder how many members here who's been giving Modwright01 grief have tried that too??). Whilst the Hd-Q7 is not as cheap as the E-MU 204, it's not a high end amp either - and I don't see anything too bad in listening to your headphones in a setup that you're most comfortable with.
Modwright01's review is his personal impressions and is not a be-all and end-all of TH900 reviews; and it sounds like he knows that. No need to mock him for what he perceives to be his ideal setup.
Edit: On a better note, my TH900's will be fixed by Fostex under warranty completely - including the scratch (hopefully new lacquer cup then).

Hello folks, I'm new to this thread, and I was wondering if any of you could share some recommendations on amp matching in regards to TH900. Now I've read several times that the TH900 is a low-impedance, yet fairly easy-to-drive headphone that works well with a broad range of headphone amps, but I'd really appreciate some advice from those who have actually listened to the TH900 (and hopefully had the chance to compare some amps with it). For example, does the TH900 work particularly well with solid state, OT tube, OTL tube, or hybrid headphone amp? Or is there a particular model that really hit the sweet spot with the TH900? I'm planning to spend around $1,000~1,500 on the amp, although I think I could stretch my budget up to $2,000. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.
By the way, I just made a new thread for the above question. http://www.head-fi.org/t/619974/amp-recommendations-for-fostex-th900
I know it's a bit premature, considering TH900 is a relatively new product and not many people have listened to it yet, but I hope TH900 gets the attention at Head-Fi it rightfully deserves.

No mockery, I was pointing out likely technical limitations. I'm not pushing the Benchmark, any SS amp with low output impedance should be fine, even the $150 O2.

E-MU 0204 USB has a output impedance of 22 ohms, and the Fostex has 25 ohms. Ideally the output impedance should be as low as possible or less than 1/8 the impedance of your headphone. It can cause frequency response to be altered. Modwright01 probably didn't hear the TH900 at its best. The headphone amp section of Anedio D2 has a output impedance of 0.035 ohm for example.

Damping power of 10 is ideal - if fostex is 25 output should be no more than 2.

its embarassing... forgive me...i was having flashback to my t5p days..
when everyone was wondering which great amp would give it the best rendition...(of its missing bass)
And i tot the T5p sounded glorious with my IPAD!
Its such a mismatch of $$gears.
so this soundcard must have stumped many here....
i am all for enjoying yourself with what u have got in this hobby.
If a simple path gets u to nirvana, then walk on.
Right this moment, i am hooking the Philips Uptown to the BCL..what bliss.
i think it beats the R10.
just fantasy.
