Alternatives to German Maestro GMP 8.35 D

Hello Head-Fiers,

This is my very first steps in audiophile world. More than half a year i was looking for a good closed headphones which will be significantly better than my old AKG K518. Last month I had a chance to spend some time with the gmp 8.35 emma (don't know if they are different from 8.35 d). From the first hour listening fell in love with them, they really impressed me. I heard so many details in music with good clarity, deep punchy bass. They're fast enough. But there was one BIG issue. The comfort of GMP's is not so good. Don't know if i have big head or large ears or probably both :( Headband stretches not enough for ideal comfort and the padding hurt top of my head. From the begining i thought i'll get use to it as to my k518. But unfortunately not...

So i'm forced to look somewhere else.

1. will be using for portable & home listening (unamped)

2. size doesn't bother me that much

3. mostly listen to complex metal, also electronic music

4. with neutral sound, good dynamic, fast overall

5. good isolation

6. ~ 300$

I'm noob & heard not really many headphones. Read a lot of praise about ATH M50 & DT 770 80 Ohm. Don't know if they can suit my expectation. Also interested in DT 770 Pro Limited Edition 32 Ohm (not sure if the sound signature will be different from 80 ohm version) but it is not available yet.

It would be really helpfull to me if some of you could comment on this.

Sorry for my bad English.

You can try the M-50, and the HD25 ll (over the ear hps). As well you can check out the Ultrasones, you can start with the 550/580, Or the Pro/PL-650.

Thanks for the advice, Acix. I've tried HD-25 and something really made me them dislike. M-50 on one hand good headphones, on the other they really overpriced (can get M-50 & DT 770 ~ 200$). A long time ago had a little time with m-50. From my memories sometimes they sounded unnatural, in my situation it was china cymbals. Dunno whether it was because of poor recording or something else (my k518 at the same time gives it sound just right). I think i will give them one more try... Many people here was talking about burn-in of ATH. Don't really believe in it. About Ultrasone rather skeptical. Don't remember what model listened to (sure it was expensive) but i do can tell they was nothing special. And I listened them with good amp...O_o

See if you can try out some Ultrasones, maybe you'll like them.
