Bose and Beats

Thread Starter

I am wondering why those brands are barely mentioned in here, while they appear to be very popular like, with a lot of people who are not audiophiles. Anyone tell me if there is anything wrong with them?

audiophiles can tell you more of why they dislike those 2 brands. bose sounds decent to me, beats studio sounds bass heavy and distorted (yes, even for me, someone not an audiophile). beats pro (they have less bass than studio and i didnt really hear distortion i heard from studio) sounds decent, think the bose quietcomfort 15 sounds better tho... i dont own neither but according to memory from demoing it in best buy...

They are popular because they are heavily advertised!!! So when people think of what headphones to buy, they remember that ad or commercial they saw for them!

This.

Most people I know think bose and beats are top tier, and really dont care when I try to tell them otherwise.  All they see is all they know confused_face.gif

It is the price:quality/performance ratio that makes them unpopular around here

There is nothing wrong with Beats, but they do not have good value.

Let me use an analogy to explain this:

Suppose a Ferrari costing $250,000 is the best car in the world.

Then a BMW costing $80,000 is mid-tier.

A Honda Civic costing $25,000 is toward the lower end.

Lastly, a Smart car costing $12,000 is at the bottom.

The Honda Civic is still a good car if you are on a budget. It drives well, is comfortable, etc.

However, let's say Honda decided to aggressively market this car and get Snoop Dogg to endorse it.

Then they took the same car and charged $80,000 for it.

There is nothing wrong with the car, but it does not have good value.

I'd rather buy the BMW at that price.

The Beats are decent headphones, but they are not worth their price.

I also dislike them for personal reasons, as I have a bitter distaste for anything trendy.

The fact that everyone has them, and shows them off, and thinks they are the 'effin ****, makes me want nothing to do with them.

For Beats, it's because all the models except the Pros are muddy, have shoddy build quality, and are waay overpriced. The Pros are supposed to sound decent, though bass-heavy, but simply aren't worth the $400 price tag. Bose is decent if you need the ANC functionality, but otherwise they're overpriced if you're looking for sound quality, and they're also overmarketed towards people who don't need the ANC. Also, for both, people who own them sometimes like to flaunt them as "the best," which just gets annoying. The same could be said of some audiophiles, however...

They are popular, doesn't mean they are good.

Justin Bieber is popular, doesn't mean hes good.

"Barely mentioned"? Have you tried searching either brand on Head-Fi?

Because they do not sound good and are not audiophile headphones.

It's largely due to the fact that those two brands dont make stuff for the kind of people on head-fi. Beats is just utter nonsense audio-wise imo (and most of the people here on head-fi agree). Bose is pretty decent, but is targeted more to frequent corporate flyers who place style, comfort and noise cancelling above pure audio quality. They sound decent but for 300usd for the QC 15s, a Sennheiser HD600 or AKG K701/2 would certainly trump them in audio quality.

Excuse me?

Justin Bieber is actually multi-talented (not only singer/performer, but can play multiple instruments).

He also actually earned his fame through his Youtube clips of his music.

Finally, even if you prefer [insert whatever artist you like] to Justin Bieber, that doesn't make him bad.

Please don't spout utter nonsense when you have no idea of what you're talking about.

I have heard Bose QC15 and they seem ok, a little overpriced but it's the only decent Bose I have tried. I don't like any of the Beats, tried them all but the Pros are the least horrible... for the money. I would say they are worth about 1/5th the asking price.

I found Beats Pros are muddy as well compare to LCD2 and HD800.

Am I honestly the only one who thought the studios sounded worse than the solos?
