Driving AKG-K240M

Thread Starter

At a yard sale the other day i found someone selling a set of AKG-K240M's for $10, at that price it was hard to pass up. My concern is this however, on the side it says 600Ohm which leads me to the question. Will there be an issues/damage trying to listen to these with a) hifiman EF2A dac/amp, b) common computer 1/4 out? I know the EF2A is rated for upto 300Ohm output impedance. I have been trying to search for a answer to this before trying them and have not found a yes/no on possible damage just that it will not be able to play as powerfully as it would with a 600Ohm output impedance amp.

Thanks for any thoughts you guys have on this.

There shouldn't be any issues at all with the EF2. I've never heard of anyone damaging their phones by underpowering them like that. It might not be the ideal amp for them, but I ran high impedance phones off the emu0404 which has a lot less power than the EF2 AFAIK. Let us know how they sound. That's a great deal you got!
