Hey there,

 

I want to improve my stereo sound on my HTPC (Realtek 889A), right now it connected to my receiver (Yamaha RX-V3900) via HDMI (ATI 5450).

My setup: Focal 816v fronts, cc800v center, REL R-528 subwoofer and DIY rears.

 

So before I purchase a DAC, I'd like to try a decent soundcard first.

 

The options are:

AudioTrack HD2

Asus Xonar Essence ST \ X

 

The AudioTrack is the cheapest.

 

Is any option worth considering?
