While I was not a fan, I do remember her awesome voice. Very sad to read this.

She was a great talent and had a great voice before she got messed up from all the blow, which is likely what killed her.  Her best time as an artist was during my younger years.  I'm sure she'll be missed by many people.  48 is too young for anyone to die.

Grew up to her tunes... I'm 18 and I am crying because she was my all time favourite and I grew up listening to her...

…so unfortunate…her demons were never a secret, but she survived long enough to make you think she might just rally and pull it together…RIP…

 

…btw, her first-ever recorded vocal lead was on a record by Material, Bill Laswell's avant-NY funk collective…she was 19…the saxist is Archie Shepp…
