Audio gd NFB-10SE VS Yulong D100 VS Asus Xonar Essence One

Hello Everyone,

I’m a long time lurker first time poster here. I know this type of thread has been brought up 100 times already but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for after reading most of them. Like many I'm looking for a DAC in the 500 dollar range. From what I could find on here and other forums seems like the Audio gd 10SE and the Yulong D100 get the most love.

Out of them two and the Asus E1, I bring that up because I like the looks but not sure if it's in the same category as the other two. How do they all compare towards each other, and what do you consider the best of the three. My use is for FLAC music files with 50/50 headphone and speaker usage. I will upgrade them sometime later but I'm using M-Audio CX8 speakers and Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro 250 Ohm. I also have an Emotiva 12 Sub I can use with the set up if I need more bass.

Looking for best overall sound what’s your order for these three:

Audio Gd10SE

Yulong D100

Asus Xonar Essence One

I know it's a long shot but I'm in the Dayton, Ohio area so if anyone is somewhat near there I would love the chance to audition some DACS as the ones I listed are pretty much online only and I would have to buy without hearing them.

I've owned the 10SE and the D100 and have to say they are one the best value DAC's on the market IMO.

The Yulong is beautifully detailed and quite neutral, although not lacking in any areas IMO. (Some think it is low on bass)

The 10SE is a bit darker with seriously deep hard hitting bass. It has alot more features too with an excelent Balanced amp and Pre-amp and a far better powersupply.

The 10SE comes in at even better value IMO & therefore as a fully balanced stand alone unit the 10SE is a step or 2 ahead of the Yulong. The nfb-10WM was great value at $780. The 10SE at $499 promo is a steal.

You cant go wrong with either as a DAC but my vote is the Audio-gd.

I would also consider Ross Martin dual mono DAC and Emotiva XDA-1 DAC as high value balanced DAC's. I haven't heard them yet but they seem to be stellar units for the money so maybe look into them too.

If you can spend a bit more the Yulong D18 would be nice. Thats next on my list.

Good luck.
