Not Much of an Audiophile but why not right?

Hello everyone, this is my first post and I need some help in deciding what headphones to get. I am not much of an audiophile, in fact I have never bought earphones over $20 before. However, I have about $135 n Best Buy gift cards/certificates that will expire on February 18th so I need to buy something. My brother recently bought the Ultimate Ears 600Vi earphones and said they sounded really good. However, I am not really looling for earphones but rather over the ear headphones.

What I listen to:
POP

RAP

HIP HOP

Usually music from artists such as Eminem, Rhianna, Adele, etc.

Also headphones I can use while I play my xbox and playstation won't be bad either.

I tried out the BOSE QuietComfort 15 at Best Buy and was quite impressed. But is it worth shelling out an extra $175 on top of the gift cards to get these? What do you guys recommend?

Edit:Unfortunately I am restricted to BestBuy.com only.

How much of your own money besides the gift cards are you looking to spend?  Fortunately for you Best Buy's website has a much larger selection than b&m locations.

BestBuy has the following headphones at their online site that you might want to look at, and do some research on here at headfi:

Sony MDR ZX700  $119

M Audio Q40   $149.99  bass heavy

Sennheiser HD280 Pro $99.99

Koss DJ100 Pro $79.99

Sony MDR XB500 $79.99 (extremely bass heavy)

AKG 518  $75 or $99 depending on color  (they also have the more upscale K181DJ model)

KRK 6400 $99.99

I'm not much of a bass head so a couple of those don't really appeal to me, but would probably work pretty well with your music tastes.

I really don't want to spend more than $150 of my own money + $135 best buy gift cards/certificates but if certain headphones are really going to blow me away or are way better then I am willing to spend up to $200 of my own money. I'll probably also want to buy a warranty from squaretrade but the cost for that wont be from the $200.

thanks for the list. Unfortunately all of the best buys around me are sold out of the MDR XB500 ad it is not available for shipping. I'll look into the others.

I guess I should probably mention that I will mostly use these headphones at home or on the bus as well.

I'm leery of recommending headphones I've never heard, but in your price range Iv'e used/own :

Sennheiser HD 25-1 II http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sennheiser+-+Studio+Monitor+Closed-Type+DJ+Headphones/8794539.p?id=1208561939969&skuId=8794539

Skullcandy Aviators http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Skullcandy+-+Aviator+Headphones+-+Black/Chrome/2137089.p?id=1218311138118&skuId=2137089

I own and love the Sennheisers, but may not have enough sub bass for bass heads.

The Aviators I tried on display, and while I think they're a little overpriced at $150, are very nice.  Much better sounding than I expected actually.

I put up closed headphones since you mentioned using them on the bus as well.  Both headphones get plenty loud on an ipod.

price range $250.00 - $300.00

also for the senns. are they over the ear or do they sit on your ear like those beats? Judging by the pic it looks like it sits on your ear.

The Senn's are supra aural, so they will sit on top of your ears. However, the velour pads are very comfortable and they can be worn for several hours at a time no problems, I haven't tried them with the pleather pads. Easily the most comfortable supra aurals I've used.

They set on your ear (the senns) but it doesn't mean they can't block sound that well.
Personally I haven't really found anything too great above 200$ in terms of portables (though there's many I have yet to find).

okay so they should still be comfortable right? And the music won't leak out much? I demoed the the BOSE Quietcomfort 15 at Best Buy the other day and though they were very comfortable but I don't really want to go in that price range if these can provide a similar experience for $100 less.
