Klipsch S4i Question

Hi everyone,

I just got a pair of Sol by Ludacris SL99 headphones for my iPhone, and am having an issue with the size of them, which leads to falling out when both buds are not inserted in an ear.  The different sizes of earpieces don't help to alleviate this problem. I can (a) buy a pair of Comply Tips (I don't know what size I am though) or (b) buy the Klipsch S4i without having tried them out. They just went to $69 on Amazon, so I think I am getting a good deal.

Three issues I have with the Klipsch are:

1. The cables look very thin so I am worried about how long they'll last.

2. The microphone and apple controls are located where the left and right wires come together. (I am not sure how big an issue this is, having never used a set like that.)

3. The connector is straight, and I kind of like the Sol 90 degree one better than my iPhone cable/Sennheiser Frankenstein creation.

Any advice?

Haven't heard the sl99, so I cant comment on the sound differences, but I got a pair of S4i in December to hold me over while waiting for some TF10 reshells.  I like my TF10 better, but have been very happy with the S4i and the purchase. The fit is good, several different tips to choose from, and the thin wires have been fine for me. I'm a bit of a bass head and the S4i have a nice punch.

I use comply tips with my TF and love them. You can pick some up at radio shack if you want to get them right away. I'd try that before putting more money into the S4i unless you have a reason to have that pair (I'll be wearing them to mow this summer).

If you go the S4i route, just know up front that the treble sibilance will simmer down but it may take 100+ hours to get there. I ran them for almost 2 weeks non-stop before mine leveled out. I was also a little afraid of cranking them as some reviews had stated, but I ran them at about 125-150% normal listening volume and they were fine.

Hope that helps!

That was very helpful! I'm in for $107 so far with the SL99, which I actually bought at Radio Shack, or just The Shack, as it is now called, so it would actually be less money to turn around and get the S4i instead. I've been looking at the 220 IEMs Reviewed thread and it's really overwhelming. I just don't know where to go from here. I guess the S4i is the logical step for me. Have you had any issues with the remote and microphone placement?
