USB audio & Minix Neo G4 Android mini PC (Android 4.0, ARM Cortex A9 dual-core CPU, quad-core Mali 400 GPU, 1GB RAM, 8GB ROM, microSD card slot, USB 2.0 port , micro USB OTG port, HDMI port, Wi-Fi, IR receiver)

http://www.minix.us/products/NEO-G4.html

Minix Neo G4 > digital USB audio out >> Fostex HP-A3 USB DAC >> QSC K12 powered speakers

"I'm able to get usb audio output(input is working too) with Neo G4 using the following audio interfaces: Fostex hp-a3, tascam us-800, zoom r24, m-audio fast track pro, roland ug-1g and behringer uca-222, once you plug it in, the audio output is default to the usb audio interface, so I can get some clean signals (audio output) thru my Qsc k12 powered speakers."

With Android phone, Android tablet and Android mini PC, Android is definitely a New Kid in Town for the USB DAC market sector.

Could anybody tell me with what kernels, roms, music players does the fiio e07k work with the samsung galaxy s3. I know that it works with android 4.1.2 but i need more details so i can be sure that it works and then i can order it.

. FiiO E07K Andes (USB DAC/amp): to be confirmed

"We have tested E07K do work as DAC for GALAXY S3 and Note 2, but there are few users reported that they can't make it work. so the official reply can not state as " compatible " with Galaxy S3 and Note 2."

[FiiO]

How about another equivalent USB DAC/amp reportedly working with the Galaxy S3 like

the iBasso D-Zero

stock, stock stock stock. Most likely any player. Neutron player is the best for quality - worst for interface. Player Pro is the best middle ground (I tested around 15 players.)

And if you read a few posts up then you will see.

Pretty much only the stock based roms work, and even though Siyah kernel supports it, often the roms don't.

The fix shown above works with the liquidsmooth rom, and thats about it,

have a stock S3 and i can not get it to interwork with the XP-1 for the life of me, how do we switch on the USB audio out?

If using an external DAC then quality of sound from the player isn't particularly relevant though.

There is no switch for USB audio. Plug in DAC to USB host cable, plug in host cable to phone. If that doesn't work then things to try are plugging the DAC into a externally powered USB hub (or similar solution that will power the attached USB device like Y-split cable with a power input), or alternately try the app USB Audio Recorder Pro.

Yusssss!

I'm glad you're reassured, but it was never using the internal DAC. If it was using the internal DAC it would have to output an analog signal to the external DAC over USB. I would say the differences you are hearing are expectation bias, which is a very powerful influence outside of blinded tests.

This means that we can get our AOSP/AOKP fix!

Currently running CM10.1 with Siyah 1.8.6 using the D-zero, it all works flawlessly! Moreover, it seems that the phone REALLY uses the dac now. On stock/stock roms, you could still change the volume on the phone whilst a external dac was connected, giving the impression that the phone was still using the internal dac. But now the volume is stuck a max and you can't change it. I believe there needs to be some clarification... The patch jacknorris made, allows Nexus 7 users the ability to hotplug a USB DAC into their tablet.  Before this patch, you had to have the USB DAC plugged in when you booted up the Nexus 7.  Now, you can plug in a USB DAC into the microusb port at any time, and use it without having to reboot. The ability to use USB Audio is provided by many of the N7 kernels out there that enable this feature.

Of course, this is pretty awesome... It really was a pain to reboot everytime I wanted to use my USB DAC, so this patch makes the N7 even more awesome!

"Android Mini PC: The Next Tech Revolution?"
"But what if I told you that was about to change? That there is a growing market in the tech industry just around the corner that can very well shape the landscape the way tablets did?

A device that has all the internals that a Android phone/tablet has but with no screen. What it does have is a HDMI output that allows it to connect to your existing HD television. All while running on the latest version of Android with a dual core processor and smaller than any set top box on the market.
The asking price?
A mere $60 USD.
A device filled with endless possibilities.

Android Mini PCs are a relatively new product. The concept is simple. A small device with good internal specifications, running the latest Android, and an HDMI output for the screen. This allows a user to have access to the best Android has to offer on their big screen television. Imagine checking your E-mail, using over 700,000 apps in the Google Play Store, watching videos, listening to music, or browsing the web all from the comfort of your couch."

Anyhow with Android phone, Android tablet and Android mini PC, Android is definitely a New Kid in Town for the USB DAC market sector.

For the low admission fee and what it could possible do, I have to admit it's very interesting.

I am a frequent flyer at XDA and more of a limited poster here but cross referencing I stumbled onto this thread.  I'm giving it a crack now (the hotplugging part).  I got it working by default with reboot but now I'm venturing with the hotplugging.

Anyways, is there a way to charge the Nexus and run USB audio out (e.g. say a USB switch?).  Can it support input and output or would you have to play with the POGO pins?  I only ask because down the road I'm considering installing the Nexus in a car as a media interface and I'd like to be able to let it be continuously charged and have USB audio out so it's a clean signal leaving the device.  Thanks!

You are correct but as a i9300 user this is new and great stuff. Before I had to stay on stock/stock roms, but now i can move on to CM10.1 and other 4.2.1 roms. The patch is supposed to work on more devices than the N7/i9300, there's just no confirmation yet.

Great news for AOSP AT&T Galaxy S3 fans!!!

I flashed Jack Norris' patch:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37158313#post37158313

While CyanogenMod 10.1 & AOKP do not work yet for some reason, I was able to flash a different AOSP based ROM which DOES work!!!

Liquidsmooth ROM works after flashing Jack's patch!!!! Hotplugging and all! Thank you, JACK!!!!
Liquidsmooth looks almost identical to CM10.1. I've never used it before so it's new to me.

Here is the ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2080247

And I flashed Ktoonsez 4.2 kernel and USB-DAC still works!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1756776

I don't know for sure, but I would suspect that the Liquidsmooth ROM for Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile S3's will probably also work after flashing Jack's patch.

CLICK THIS THREAD for my "quick guide" on how to get all this working:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2116877

EDIT:  Jack thinks he has figured out what's wrong in CyanogenMod and is going to release another patch for that soon.

This is great news now that this stuff is working on CM/AOSP ROMs.

Now that I have my AOSP, there is one last thing I need for USB-DAC nirvana.

I need a USB-OTG cable that also triggers "dock mode" or "car mode".  Has anyone found anything like this or know how to hack an OTG cable into doing this?

So far, like the quad-core Exynos powered Galaxy S III, the new quad-core Exynos powered Samsung Galaxy Note II can work with the FiiO E7, the iBasso D12, Leckerton UHA-6S MKII, the ODAC, … ; had some issue with the HeadAmp Pico (bug fixed by HeadAmp); and doesn’t work with the FiiO E17 using the stock USB audio driver.

So, in regard to the USB protocol, the behaviour of the Galaxy Note II is likely identical to the behaviour of the Galaxy S III.

A list of standard USB DAC reportedly interworking with the Android-powered smartphone Samsung Galaxy S III:

stock Samsung Galaxy S III > digital USB audio out >> USB OTG cable (micro-A plug inserted into the S III) >> standard USB DAC >> amp >> headphones
